^ Hm, two inward curved towers could prove to look like City hall but interesting enough. If anything, both sides (the city and Oxford) need to stop bull and come clean about what exactly their planning. These supertall proposals seem incredibly fishy as per timing considering the amount of news coming out about how bad this would be for the city in the long run. If anything, Oxford should make some contribution to help traffic flow or fund some of Toronto's subway dreams. If they are able to to put some significant contribution to ease traffic flow (whether that be subways or doing something with the gardiner) it would be a better contribution than the supertalls (though it pains me to say so). However, what I've said is probably ludicrous because I've just asked them to put the billion plus to transportation (where they wont get anything back) rather than in two towers that they could make a profit off of. Too bad nothing gets done for the greater good nowadays :/

Oxford to Fund New Transpo Infastructure to Deal with Front Street Convention Centre Proposal

In Toronto, amoung the representatives here, Adam Vaughan has become the most outspoken critic of this project, indicating that Toronto doesn't have the transit infactructure to deal with the coming crush load of proposals in the core. As a carrot Oxford has proposed, building a railway deck of the railway lands with a park so that the North and South Convention Centre buildings can be linked together. In addition to the public park over the railway tracks, Oxford is promising to build a state-of-the-art tunnel to allow the new property to be serviced underground for Truck and Delivery Service.

That's good to hear Cal. It's a start to aiding Toronto's transport issues.

" Each tower would have 40 stories for commercial establishments and 30 stories for apartments, making it 70 stories. Oxford Properties Group Executive Vice President Michael Kit said that the residential aspect of the proposal could be cancelled if the demand isn't high enough."

"Further, he said that Oxford might abandon the entire $3 billion project if the council does not approve the casino aspect of it or approves the casino, but demands a change of location. "

Hm...I sort of predicted this....the supertalll announcement was simply to draw attention away from the casino and then next thing we know Oxford just "might" cancel 30 stories of the towers if the demand isn't there... well they shoudn't have proposed a 3 billion project when the condo boom is just about over...

So you think that Oxford, a big player in the Toronto construction industry, decided to jump into the condo market right as it was just about over? A team of experienced professionals, who are dedicated to making money, thought they would just throw it all away? I think it's far more likely they know something that you dont.

I'm not implying that I know more.

I just think that this proposal may have more to it than it shows. It may end up hurting Toronto in the long run because of how Oxford is changing their stance on the whole project...
Here we have the first possible supertalls in Canada and in the next few days they voice their own doubts about whether they can accomplish that. Does that not seem weird?

That info was in the Star article from more than a week ago. It does seem curious how noncommittal the individual interviewed was.

Caesars Entertainment Corp.

TORONTO, Nov. 2, 2012 /CNW/ - Caesars Entertainment Corporation and Rock Gaming LLC today released its early vision for a downtown Toronto gaming entertainment facility. The renderings depict how an urban-integrated casino could be developed at one of several potential downtown sites.

Caesars and Rock Gaming are leaders in developing integrated entertainment complexes in major urban centres in North America. Caesars is also home to the most iconic names in entertainment including Celine Dion, Elton John, Shania Twain, Rod Stewart and many more.

The group's vision for a development at the Metro Toronto Convention Center (MTTC), which was recently identified as a potential casino site, focuses on a gaming entertainment complex that will serve as another world-class tourism anchor while complementing the City's pedestrian-focused layout and leveraging its robust public transit system. "We believe that the convention centre site provides a prime opportunity to achieve these important goals," said Caesars Executive Vice President of Communications and Government Relations, Jan Jones.

Highlights of the development, which would feature the "Caesars" brand, include a sophisticated and modern structure with a multi-story glass entry to integrate into the city's urban fabric. The vision also includes the creation of an urban park edged by retail, dining and year-round entertainment.

Jones said the early MTCC renderings are working concepts based on initial input from City leaders, local stakeholders and area businesses. "As stakeholder objectives are refined, we look forward to engaging several local and international architects to further develop concepts for this and other potential casino sites in downtown Toronto," Jones said.

"Regardless of the site, fundamental to our vision is designing a casino entertainment complex that builds partnerships with existing businesses - especially restaurants, hotels, entertainment and cultural venues - to attract more visitors and help all downtown businesses succeed," said Matt Cullen, president and chief operating officer of Rock Gaming.

I'm liking the way they intergrate the Park with the Entertainment Facilities.

This could become a landmark venue, even without the towers.

wow, the amount of proposed/UC in toronto is staggering.

Personally, I love Foster's WTC proposal, and if a version comes to Canada, I couldn't be more thrilled (much less so about the Casino aspect)

If we actually got a design like the Foster proposal for NYC it would be a sure sign that Toronto is finally embracing its new found status and shaking off its timidness. Honestly, I'm sick to death of the minimalist conservatism of the International Style.

It would be a breath of fresh air to get a design like the one shown and a big relief, to be honest.

Agreed. Twin towers along the lines of those proposed will be wonderful for Toronto.

Interesting... there haven't been many proposals for urban casinos in the US. The casino business is usually pretty inflexibile with its demands for giant single-level gaming floors, even when they are allowed into uber-profitable urban sites.

We have one in downtown New Orleans, and it basically works like a convention center on a massive footprint.

Those are placeholders for Oxfords part of the development. Just like Oxfords renders made the casino towers placeholders.

Space is an uber-uber expensive luxury in downtown Toronto.

I didn't like the supertall's design when I initially saw them. Especially when it was something very similar as the proposal for the WTC in NYC. However, I now really like the look, particularly the height, and am longing to see them constructed in Toronto as illustrated in the rendering.
Would I like them as much if they were 125m instead of 325m? No, not at all, but as a supertall, they're good with me.
