Window openings on the lower buildings are framed with wood and windows are being installed, at least a half dozen are already in on the third floor.

I just walked by and saw the windows going in. They look great! It's nice to finally see lots of pieces coming together.

It will be interesting to see if we hear anything about the Roy Building as this nears completion. It's possible they'll be shifting some tenants over. If the Roy plans include a significant residential portion they could move pretty quickly.
Last January, AllNovaScotia was reporting this would be finished by late 2012....

Here's a photo I stole from Paul Mackinnon's twitter account:

This is looking great. I'm glad Starfish took the time to do it right.

The restored windows looks quite beautiful. The randomised blue of the new office addition -- not so much.

It does look a bit odd at the moment, but I think it night look better when it's fully completed.

I wonder what kind of restoration work they are planning for the old facades. They still look a little rough. Exciting times for the street though.

Hopefully we will soon see the NFB building undergo a similar transformation.

It's possible. Personally, I've appreciated random colour hues on large buildings. Espace is so small that I, at the moment anyway, find it overwhelming to the eye and disorganised... almost as though they began installing the glass and simply said, "Ya, fuck it..."

I'm actually going to reserve judgement until a few of the other nearby redevelopments are complete - I'm thinking specifically of the Roy and Discovery Centre towers but smaller projects on Barrington and things like the Nova Centre and TD renovations will also make a difference. Basically after the next round of developments there will be much more "above the podium" glass along Barrington and adjacent streets, most of which will probably be single-coloured. So while ESpace looks kind of wacky now, it might contrast well with the more solid-coloured "glass blocks" that will begin to fill in above the current street level. I also think it was a smart move (deliberate or not) to not try to make ESpace look just like Waterside Centre, which seemed like a relatively likely outcome when the two projects were being proposed.

Sometimes it takes a while to get used to a new building.

I really like Halifax's architectural diversity. I am not sure any other city in Canada can match the combination of fine-grained buildings, the mix of old and new, and the high quality of the older stuff. If Barrington's various holes are filled in it will be quite the street. That's part of why I'm still interested in the town even though I moved away; it has some really interesting potential (and tensions -- it's not clear how all of these things will be resolved, or if they will be).

Thanks for the updates!

The windows do make a huge difference. I have a feeling the project will look better and better as the final detailing is completed.

This project has been a bit of a sleeper for me. I've been following its progress somewhat half-heartedly, but now I think it's really coming together nicely.

I can't wait for the storefronts to come together. This block will look ten times better.

They should have cleaned the facads before putting the windows in.

Who wants to bet they won't do anything to clean the facads?

That's unnecessarily negative. Starfish generally does a good job of restoring and maintaining historic buildings (Morse's Tea debacle aside).

I hope so. Can't say I like it much thus far.

They already jet washed all of the facades last autumn. I think that was the restoration To make things better they'd need to get a grinder to the masonry and a mason to repair any stone that's too badly eroded. Can't see that happening sadly.
