The steps to making a Fordham Spire (easy way).

1) Make a cone.
2) Carve out four bites into the cone.
3) take the carved out cone and twist it.

It's actually easier than it might seem.

STR,
On the boom rundown was a note that Astoria Tower at 9th and State might have started site prep. Is it in the model? I don't see it in the shot looking up State. It would be due west of Park Michican I think.

I think the word I'm trying to find is WOW.

You've got to put up the Prudential logo at the base of 1 Pru sometime, too.

A bumpmap could propbably do that perfectly.

BTW For all those into 3D modelling, note the trick I used on the observation deck, where I use one block to depict two mullions on opposite sides of the tower. It's a quick and easy way to lower the overhead on your computer, so long as you don't need interior shots.

I'm pretty sure I was going to get around to it, then didn't.

It happens.

A lot.

I hadn't visited for a while, because you had made noises about quitting many months ago.

I'm so glad you're keeping it up -- the models are totally incredible and a tremendous resource. Obviously you're doing it because it's fun, so I don't feel guilty enjoying it so much.

STR: I was wondering in your model if it is possible to view from ground level? Say looking north at Monroe & Columbus or down Clark St. from Armitage?

^^^ STR should get a modeling program company to sponsor him at the rate people keep asking what he uses! Kinda like illegal street racing, except with computers and buildings.
