^ For those who don't know, the large surface lot immediately north of the site is also being developed by Carmel Partners. This is the project and it's already under construction:

Nice. From the aerial, there are a lot of lots that could be developed. That should be the trend, more residential, more density.

^ Half of the lots you see either have something under construction, have something planned, or had something planned before the recession hit. I expect South Park to fill up nicely during the next boom, whenever that will be.

That building will have a Whole Foods too.
There's a 32 story building under construction right next to this one. I believe it's on it's 13th floor.
^ That would be the Onni Group's 888 Olive project (which I already hate). They also have plans for a 50-story residential tower on that rectangular lot you see right across the street.

Not a bad project frankly. I'm glad this thread was put up. I hope this is one of those DTLA proposals that makes it onto the 'under construction' thread. Far too many good looking proposals from the last boom never made it.
I think out of all the recent proposals, minus fig central and metropolis, this one I think has a big chance of getting built. I hope the block that this building sits on sees more activity and gets filled in soon. as you can see from the aerial view, the block this building sits on has a couple of parcels of land that can easily fit 4-5 more towers.
Good news for anyone who was unhappy with 801 Olive Street. Carmel Partners has retained a new architect, and the redesigned project will now be slightly narrower and slightly taller (up to 33 stories, 352' tall from 27 flr/317'). All other specs (363 apartments, 10k sq ft retail) remain the same.

Do you see the ground?? Do you see how it is broken?? Sorry for the lighting. Was doing a bikeride by and had 20 seconds. The background looks great tho.
The memo from the LADCP stated that Carmel hired a new architect to redesign the project as a 33-story, 352'-tall building. All permits on filed with LADBS also describe it as 33 stories.
However, still waiting on new renderings and the name of the architect.
Thanks blackcat! Very exciting... if only we knew what this building is going to look like. I'll do some fishing for updated renderings...
Update: I can't find any new renderings... just some info that the redesign will be taller and slimmer. Also, I believe this thread should be moved to Under Construction.
