Onnis tower is going up quick. 15-20 more floors to go ? its going to make a huuuge impact on the skyline when its done. I was driving to Hollywood yesterday and from the east, this along with that Mack Urban tower on grand are already making nice impacts on the skyline and neither one is barely halfway topped out.

Speaking of topped out. There is sooo much going on that no one even noticed that Apex 2 is almost topped out now. 6-7 years ago, that would have been the only thing being discussed on here and everyone here would be drolling over it. Now, its literally just considered infill and no one bats an eye. Thats how you know we've come a looooong ways and progressed to bigger and better things.

Is it just me, or does the Mack Urban tower look way different than the renderings? I was expecting it to be blue and white. Similar to the 'LEVEL Tower'

^^^ I wonder if the city realizes that if they just made ONE walking path, maybe 6 feet wide, and made the whole "Park" grass and trees, how happy we would be and how much cheaper it would be for them.

' A paseo, a space for vendors, a water court, a TREE HOUSE???" youre throwing waaaaay to many ideas at a space that can barely hold 2 trees (sarcasm folks, calm down) but seriously. 1 Pathway, trees and grass. That's it. If you want to get fancy, add a small fountain in the center and call it a day.

I'm actually a native angeleno moving there because it's everything LA will never be...walkable (the whole city), very affordable, vibrant and most importantly, will be able to do creative projects there that would never pencil in LA (I'm in real estate)....gonna have to change my username

Don't get me wrong, I love LA and always will, it's on fire right now and will keep growing. Just all depends what kind of life you're looking for.

Speaking of this.. What are some great/good examples in downtown of parking/podium coverings? I have seen some that aren't SO bad.. Anyone know if they ever plan on covering the petco garage with anything?? Also, not thrilled with the coverings on Metropolis. Looks OK during the day.. but at night its like nothing is there. Why is this such a hard thing for architects/developers?? I guess they just don't care?

^^^ The best podiums haven't been built yet. I think most here will agree with, podiums are always bad, UNLESS they are masked with residential units or office space. Like in the case of the 4th and Broadway tower and the 4th and Hill tower. Both masked most of their podiums with residential units. All of the previous podiums went with simple mesh or plainly exposed podiums which are horrible.

I really like what they did at Wilshire & Crescent Heights, 3033 Wilshire, and on Atelier. The reason why the podium finishes are how they are is because first, they need exhaust for the cars, so they can't be fully covered up. Second comes the cost benefit of providing costly finishes to what is only a parking garage. There really is no incentive to cover them up, especially since if you want to cover up the garage in finishes that are typical to the rest of the tower, making special custom exhaust grilles that match the finishes would escalate the total costs. Lastly, architecturally speaking, you want to separate visually the two program components to distinguish between the tower and the parking podium, especially when you have a very long horizontal plane that meets a thin vertical element.

I think the two best, by far are 8th and hope and 8th and Spring (u/c). Atelier, level and Ten50 are ok.

Worst, by far, is Watermarke. Make me want to puke
