World's Most Liveable Cities: 2011 Economist Intelligence Unit Report (PHOTOS)

Based on a combination of environment, health care, culture and infrastructure, Vancouver topped the list of the world's most liveable cities for the fifth straight year, according to a new report.

As Reuters is reporting, the 2010 Winter Olympics host scored a whopping 98 percent in the 2011 Liveability Ranking and Overview by the Economist Intelligence Unit, which has ranked the Canadian west coast city at the top since 2007. Canada dominated the top 10 spots along with Australia, with Melbourne surpassing Vienna, Austria as the world's second most liveable city.

Now I take these 'most livable' lists with a giant grain of salt because the actual market for the Economist and Mercer's lists are companies that are interested in determining compensation for executives placed abroad. That's a pretty narrow target market and it could hardly be less representative of the general public. With that said, it is still flattering to 'win' year after year. It doesn't change day to day life on the ground but it does reflect that we are a lot of things right compared to many other cities. Now about the whole 'housing affordability as it relates to median local income' thing...

for this kind of topic, u dont have to read the headline or what's goin on in the story to know what's it about...

lies....

vancouver being the most affordable city on the planet if you have a million or more to spare, is never the most livable if u dont have that much money to throw into housing

and the whole pt is the ranking of cities...and u cannot rank a 2.4million region against a 10million in terms of congestion...

nevertheless it's still pretty accurate since toronto isn't in the top ever....if it was, that'd be a stupid study

But it is #4...and Calgary is #5.

What this index is measuring is essentially country-wide factors.
