That is such significant improvement over what was there. Good to see this.

Here's a mixed-use project that seems well on track for Bagnolet, an eastern suburb neighboring the 20th arrondissement.

Right there actually.

So, it's designed to be cheap because you're not really in a wealthy area there, but at least it would be a first mixed-use highrise, widely residential in the metro area if Hermitage doesn't build their twins at la Défense first. The architect expects the offices and the apartments with the best views at the top to make it profitable, in spite of the location surrounded by some post-war ugly mess.

EDIT: there's actually 2 towers of course, 100 and 135m (330 and 440 ft). The column that links them would be some 'shared gardens'.

You should take a look at this crazy 360 panorama taken from the Saint-Jacques tower for the municipality, for an overview of the inner fabric.

Here's an original vegetated wall in the 2nd arrondissement, along pedestrian rue Montorgueil if I'm not mistaking.

batiweb.com

http://blog.velib.paris.fr/blog/2013...oeur-de-paris/

The wall is 25m tall (82 ft), a 250m² area (2700 ft²). That's enough to have put 7600 plants of 237 species in there.
Designed by botanist Patrick Blanc.

Great view! Thanks. Can someone identify the tall buildings in the background just to the left of Beaubourg.

^ I would say les Orgues de Flandre, a residential complex of the 70s that includes 4 highrises. It's quite ugly nowadays, like all nasty concrete looking or something undesirable.
Still around that spot of the skyline, I'm sure to recognize tour la Villette that's decent since it's been renovated in the 90s.
And maybe residential tour Paris Seine appears too around there, but I'm not sure about that one.

That's pretty much it... Maybe just a couple of more little highrises like these along with them around there, that I don't have on my mind right now.

Talking of the insane cost of housing, I found this map which shows the sale price of apartments in Central Paris and the inner suburbs in 2012. I've converted the figures into US dollars per sq. foot.

For comparison, according to zillow.com (don't know how accurate they are), the median sale price in NYC and around in 2012 was:
- Manhattan: US$1,092 per sq. ft
- Brooklyn: US$437 per sq. ft
- Queens: US$325 per sq. ft
- Jersey City: US$271 per sq. ft
- Bronx: US$238 per sq. ft

In the City of San Francisco: US$618 per sq. ft

It's crazy that places like Asnières-sur-Seine or Clamart are as expensive as San Francisco.

Interesting. If we built a skyscraper cluster at St Lazare, as I have repeatedly proposed in the forum that shall not be named,
it would look like this (the top of the St Augustin's dome to the left of this tentative cluster has a height of 60 meters/195 ft).

The public transportation node at St Lazare:

A picture taken 2 days ago by -pieton- showing the 193 m (633 ft) Tour Majunga (left) and the 175 m (573 ft) Tour D2 (center) under construction at La Défense.

This afternoon I was on the Champs-Elysées and for the first time I could see Tour Majunga appearing through the Arc de Triomphe, 4.6 km (2.8 miles) from where I was standing. Impressive!

Closer views of Tour Majunga taken by defense-92.fr. Too bad this skyscraper is surrounded by ugly blocks from the 1960s and 1970s.

generator hostel paris is under construction at 11 place du colonel fabien

it's a shame that it's not being built on the gas station, but it's nice and close to the pcf headquarters for the kids to pop over to.

Stuck in the middle of the trees of the Bois de Boulogne, Frank Gehry's building/museum for the Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation looks pretty close to its final appearance.

The pictures are copyrighted, so I'd rather go like this...

A little closer.

It's just terrific from there with la Défense in the background.

You get some closeups during construction (details of the materials) in this French-speaking thread. Some observers just complain about the location. It's just about hidden in the Boulogne woods indeed.

Also, off-topic in a Paris thread but somewhat related because of that design fitted with that sort of large glass canopy, you may take a look at Lyon's Musée des Confluences.

In both cases, I guess if you look carefully, you still can see some of the huge influence of Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum...

^ There's quite A LOT to do over that area... It looks like East Berlin, Soviet Union or whatever repulsive, bringing everything down and yet so close to the historic core.
Doesn't really fit the local free-market standards...

I took this crappy picture of Tour Majunga with my phone this afternoon from the Porte Maillot, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. The core of Tour Majunga now appears taller than any tower to the left of the La Défense axis.
