Just a guy in a yellow vest wondering around with a shovel looking confused, I suspect it's one of the Bonnis brothers or maybe Rennie.

Sources say, that the site has been sold and may be resurrected as a Hotel.

Yes!
I never did like the design of the strata office tower.
A hotel would help liven up Robson Street too.

Hopefully, this means more space for retail too!

I agree, the proposal was a bit modest for such a central location, imho.

I walked by the site yesterday and can confirm that the rock pile is still there. And looked like there were one or two guys walking around the site.

I was going to get a picture to post on my way back, but I forgot. There, that's my big contribution to the forum today. Thank you.

It's not clear that's a real sale, or an internal shuffling of property (or an error by Avison Young). Boutique Development Inc was the name of the developer of the 13 storey strata office, now apparently dropped. They share an address with Bonnis.

Ya, there were some good things there. Must be a pretty upsetting for businesses that had to move out so the lot could sit empty for the next four years ...and counting.

Yes, that wasn't the plan, but that's how it has worked out.

Google Street view from 2017 of the block:

Time Frame framing store on the corner, Red Burrito, Simon's Bike Shop, India Gate restaurant.

Time Frame moved to West 8th, and Simon moved into the library concourse. Red Burrito might not have been unhappy to close, with Chipotle opening a couple of blocks away.

None of which is as ideal as this block of retail.

I'm sure even land owners should be happier collecting rent rather than letting the lot sit vacant without any significant increase in land value while continuing to pay property taxes.

And yet that's exactly what they did. And the land value went up $1.8m in a year (a 7% increase).

30-storey hotel tower proposed for vacant Robson and Seymour corner
Quote:
Instead of proceeding with building the strata office tower, his company sold the lot to another entity —
an “international hotelier.” Bonnis says the hotelier, which he did not name, recently submitted their application to
the City to build a 30-storey hotel tower.

3 or 4 stories out of one interview with Kerry Bonnis....

They've owned like 60% of Granville St for how long (decades?), and yet it's the recent Council's fault for all of the issues?

Either way I'm excited for the various projects under planning/construction. Bring on the hotel boom!
