If they were included then the government would have to admit that we have a false economy based on our real estate being marketed globally as the world's second/vacation home (and the implications thereof). It would start a domino effect causing many segments of our economy to crumble. Talk about painting oneself into quite the corner...

I don't think the current design does that location any justice whatsoever. I would love to see something as daring as Kengo Kuma's 1550 Alberni on that site, or even something more like Studio Gang's recently unveiled Midtown Toronto skyscraper. Granville St Bridge (once the middle lanes provide a pedestrian link to south of the creek and to an observation deck high above Granville Island) will become probably one of the most photographed vistas of Vancouver. Please save that location for something great—something Mississauga could never pull off.

This tower still has a long ways to go through the approvals process and will undoubtedly see revisions. I doubt it makes it through the UDP as is.

The more I think about this thing, the more I realize it's basically a stripped-down version of Burrard Place - a design that first surfaced in 2011. The white zig-zaggy grid will even have the same skyline/bridge orientation:

Source: Skyrise Vancouver

At least Reliance has a decent track record with executing well, unlike Pinnacle.

It's a nice design but too safe for the site. Condos in Toronto and most especially in Dubai are designed quite nicely and don't need to resort to explanations of ballerinas and dresses being inspirations for their facade...

I only now noticed that they have turned Granville Bridge in a massive 8-lane super freeway out of the downtown core. I wish.

Nothing new per se, but Daily Hive had the higher resolution originals in their story from back in May, so cross-posting those in here as well.

Wow right across from the B.I.G's Vancouver House project. This officially makes this area cool(as if it weren't already)! The underside of Granville interchange will be dramatically revitalized.

I look forward to that. In the pic below the 601 Beach Crescent tower would be on the far right.

Oh boy, the podium looks like it's going to be painted concrete (totally not expected from pinnacle)

Only Pinnacle could come up with a podium that's just a more cluttered version of these early-mid 1950s' West End apartment buildings:

well to be fair, normally those 50s buildings had nice, unique tile detailing on the main level. something pinnacle cant copy, they aren't technologically advanced enough

That's an excellent piece of architecture; mid-century West End at it's best. This Pinnacle project, on the other hand, is looking like a train wreck.

this thing is too disgusting as is. A skin-deep imitation of Vancouver House's curves only de-values the latter.

I'm surprised at the strong reactions here.

I don't think its a showpiece, but didn't think its THAT bad.

On the bright side - no matter what is put up will be better than The Mark.

It would look so much better if they varied the balcony placement like 1 Bloor East (T.O.),
rather than just varying the window/curtain wall.

Yeah, a little over the top.

It’s not the greatest proposal, but it’s not hideous by any means.

Some tweaking of the tower design could help it.

The podium is where some major reworking is needed though. Lacks the urban edge and bridge interactions of Vancouver House’s podium.

Window wall unforuntately. They clarified at the open house.

This thing works as an initial massing design but it needs more refinement and better materials given its prominent location.

I would actually say that if this tower was in ANY other location in the city that it would receive a lot more praise. It's just that it is right across from Vancouver House which is easily one of the best towers in the city. If I were to draw a comparison I would say that Beach Crescent is like Kelly Rowland and Vancouver House is like Beyonce. Each are talented performers but one is clearly upstaging the other.
