Great series as always.

Great to see some street level pictures of Shanghai. Plus it looks very European in some of it's architecture.

You came to Shanghai back in Dec. 2006 and you didn't look me, Bob Loblaw or Staff up? For shame!

Nice Bund tour. It's the one small area of Shanghai that always looks the same.

Great pictures. Shanghai has some historic buildings, which I am kind of surprised about.

^Some? The city is a thousand years old. If you're surprised by this, I can only imagine how shocked you'll be when you see how much variety of old architecture there is here. The amount of art deco is staggering for a city outside of NA.
I think I really need to do a photo tour showing the amount of old stock this city has. It'll be a bit of an undertaking, but I think I owe the forum and it's members this.

Isn't that AURORA building usually all gold? What's the pink?

At night the Aurora building facade is turned into a giant video screen. I presume that's just the screen turning on, considering these pictures seem to be taken at dusk.

Good overview of the riverfront.

Shanghai could improve its skyline greatly by simply tearing down that damn TV tower and re-cladding the "Aurora" building.

Disagree on both points. The Oriental Pearl is iconic, and Aurora's gold cladding is awesome in person. When you see a photo of Shanghai's Lujiazui skyline, there's no question what city you're looking at, and I think it would really lose something without the Pearl and Aurora just as they are now.

^^
Agreed. Both of the towers give the Lujiazui skyline part of its identity, and they're both quite awesome in their own way. Sure, the OPT is quite a monstrosity by itself - but it's THE Shanghai building. The Aurora is awesome in person - especially with the humongous TV-screen that covers the facade completely (and if that wasn't enough, the Citigroup Building next to it has an even bigger TV-screen - the world largest iirc).

Not arguing against the TV screen, just the tacky gold cladding. I understand that they're both "unique", but that doesn't necessarily imply a positive.

I don't know how the Oriental Pearl Tower did it, but it made me in to a fan. I used to despise the thing, but now I kind of get excited when I see it. One of life's mysteries I guess.

Enjoyed seeing some of Shanghai's older buildings. The juxtaposition is incredible.
