I found these boring social houses in Loopealse, Lasnamäe, Tallinn. I really hate that building in the middle...

(Panoramio/Sergey Semakov)

I also hate big shopping centers, like this one:

Ohh, boy this will be an interesting thread

1. Every Communist block on the face of the planet, I think i'll leave it at that:

Michaeltotten.com

2. Madison Square Garden, this bastardized Colosseum is just plain disgusting. It's mere presence in the landscape of Manhattan is incredibly offensive. What makes it even more offensive is the fact it replaced something oh so beautiful:

hauteliving.com

3. Every single bunker on the face of the earth, again i'll leave it at that:

trekearth.com

I love Madison Square Garden. Yes, I agree, it replaced something way better, but taken on it's own, it is a great piece of mid century architecture.

BAH! These threads usually turn into a "What I think is ugly" thread. With lots of people point and saying "HEY! I like that building"

This new Extron Electrons suburban office park building in Raleigh. The overall prison look of the building, the too small windows, the lack of scale, the blander than bland facade. Oh god kill it with fire.

Not to slam on Boston, but Boston City Hall is simply atrocious.

I nominate the entire Walter Netsch-designed campus of the University Of Illinois at Chicago. While the campus has changed quite a bit since my days there, I remember UIC as a dismal, uninspiring, and occasionally dangerous place.

This New Orleans' edifice usually makes the list, and having seen it in person it is a wee beast.

Trg Republike, Ljubljana, Slovenia

They're hideous, but interesting. You can't help but wonder why they look like that. I am pretty sure it was intentional. The clock on the right tower is really the cherry on the cake of bad architecture that is Trg Republike.

Hell, I remember seeing those monstrosities many years ago when I spent a few days in Ljubljana!

That's a new one, and an ugly one. It's a confused mess between 70's Brutalism, 80's PostModernism and the Queen Mary.

I like it. It's proportions are fine and it is colorful. Not bad. It's definitely just a matter of opinion. Commie blocks on the other hand are objectionally bad.

Cheap late 80s early 90s postmodernism is by far the worst architecture on the planet.

Dirty 70s blocks can be saved with new paint and windows (I've seen amazing examples of commieblock renovations) but there is no way to save those tacky hunks of pomo crap.

There was a thread similar to this a few years back which went on for 23 pages:

http://skyscraperpage.com/forum/show...=151487&page=5

Some of the buildings on there are truly amazingly ugly.
