Since my original post, I found the application and have posted more photos, which should give you a better perspective. I also posted links to the application and plans

Here is a link to the application on the city's development tracker: https://sacramento.civicinsight.com/...0_H-ST_APP.pdf

Here is a link to the plans: https://sacramento.civicinsight.com/...H-ST_PLANS.pdf (Huge file alert!)

A one or two story mid-century modern office building would have to be demolished; and the site is in a fairly low-rise area. So we shall see if the preservationist crew will allow the property’s owner to build this proposal in THEIR city. You must always have their blessing.

Below is a drawing comparing the existing H Street elevation to the proposed elevation:

As you can see, it is quite a change. I expect some push back from Sac Mod and Preservation Sacramento, who will be or have already been contacted (according to the application). The buildings on the opposite side of H street (north side) are single story, accept for one 3-story brick facade building on the corner of 12th and H.

^^^ looks like a decent infill. SacMod might give their 2 cents worth but I don't see their opinions swaying the powers that be in any way.

As we have seen with Yamanee, if preservationists don't get what they want, they'll just sue...and sue...and sue.

I like it.

I read the SacBee article, it says it could break ground in a matter of weeks. How is that possible? The application was submitted recently and hasn’t gone through planning commission. And we all know project like these take 2 years before actual construction

Yes but the main argument there was not preservation but height and city zoning. I don’t believe that applies here.

With these recent proposals and what's already under construction, that whole area near 65th & Folsom is turning into a nice little urban node.

Wow, the 65 East Project at 65th and Folsom is so big.

^^ I agree that transit hub is going crazy, best thing I've heard happening there since the Americor lot became a shopping center. That little area will have so much housing within a half mile... I wonder if it will be the most densely populated area in sac?

I imagine not. The density will still be rather thin when compared to the say the Fremont Park area of Midtown. Still it’s really awesome to see that area built up. Sacramento needs more TODs outside of the grid.

I am really happy that the City and developers are building out that area around 65th, that place really did need some help,

If there is one thing I would want the city to do with that area, it would be to integrate residential and retail. While the city has some leisurely areas (700K, R Street Corridor, and MAARS), they don’t have any that I know of near the college itself. How awesome would that be if that area would have residential areas as well as bars, arcades, restaurants, and maybe a few boutiques. That would be an ideal college hangout area.

What would be even better is if they can reuse some industrial buildings and vacant lots in the area to create a residential retail district near the campus.

^^^ I know it'll never happen but especially with the (hopefully) future light rail line, I've always wished some of these mixed-use mid-rises would pop up on some of the open lots in North Natomas. IIRC, the original master plan for North Natomas had it MUCH more dense and walkable that what we're actually getting.

A light rail line to Natomas and the airport.. is my dream. Where can I see the original plans for North Natomas?

I still wish Sacramento could find a way to reclaim the space above I-5 in downtown. I always understood it is complicated, but despite the many flaws in this book, I found it an educational read.

California lawmakers call in a $1.2 billion wrecking ball for their offices

By Melody Gutierrez
San Francisco Chronicle
June 12th 2018

SACRAMENTO — It was headline news when Gov. Jerry Brown and legislative leaders reached a deal to spend an extra $600 million next fiscal year on shelters and other local measures to try to reduce the number of homeless people in California. But there’s an even bigger number tucked away in the 2018-19 budget for lawmakers’ home away from home — the state Capitol. The state would spend $1.2 billion as part of a project to replace the 66-year-old annex to the historic Capitol under the budget that the Assembly and Senate will vote on this week.
