Persistent rumours in the Quebec media that Patrick Roy will be the new coach in Ottawa.

Feeling Boston in 5, but hoping Blues in 6.

I'm actually rooting for the Bruins. As a Leafs fan that may seem odd, however if the Blues don't win the cup the Leafs drought is a little less pathetic. That goes for the Canucks, Sabres also. People love bringing up the Leafs misfortunes but I'd take their situation over any of those 3 teams who haven't won squat in their whole franchise history and their drought is nearly as long. Not Toronto's fault they have an historic Original Six team that was around to win some cups. I sound a little bitter don't I?

Only original six team to not win in the expansion era, haven’t even made a cup finals appearance in that time. Pretty sad.

I don't even consider the Original 6 era when comparing success between teams anyway.

It's nice from a historical perspective of the game, but it was a league comprising of only 6 teams - which makes it so much easier to win.

Plus the odds were heavily tipped in Toronto, Montreal and Detroit's favor as the league had a rule where each team had exclusive rights to negotiate contracts with players within 50 miles of home ice. Since the vast majority of players were Canadian and a big chunk were from within 50 miles of Toronto, Montreal and Detroit - it was a huge advantage for those teams.

So in my mind, the Leafs really haven't won anything meaningful.

Always love Quebec media.

Ottawa Senators name D.J. Smith as head coach

They're always good to add a bit of colour!

Apparently Roy did dine with Sens GM Pierre Dorion in Montreal recently. So Roy was probably on the short list.

BTW I don't mind Claude Julien but it would be cool if Montreal could get Guy Boucher back in the organization. He was once with us (coached the farm team) and destined according to many to coach the Habs one day. But he left when a head coaching opportunity manifested itself elsewhere first.

This is why it's nice not being in a one-trick pony town. Leafs are out but all their fans are watching the Raptors championship run right now. Not sure what Flames fans are up to?

You may not have noticed, but every NHL city in Canada has other teams to cheer for...

One thing I've noticed is that in the celebrations over the Raptors success, people have been exulting that this is the first time that a Toronto based team has been a championship series since the Blue Jays in 1993. These people have pointedly talked about the "big three sports" in the city, deliberately ignoring the Argonauts. I guess the Argos don't count because they play in an all Canadian league.

It has nothing do with it being a Canadian league but simply it's not the best league in its respective sport.

Toronto has won championships in the MLS, CFL, AHL and NLL in recent times. I guess the NLL is the leading league (I think?) for that sport but the sport itself isn't overly popular. Hands up if you knew Calgary won that this year if you didn't read it in this thread. Anyways in the case of the other 3 there are bigger leagues out there.

Of course I knew the Roughnecks won! And I know that Cavalry FC is in first place in the CPL, and that the Stamps are the current Grey Cup champs. Otoh, I probably couldn’t name you three Raptors, and I think I can only name one Blue Jay, Vladimir Guerrero, and I only know him because I watched his father play for the Expos, so his name stuck in my head when i saw a news clip on him.

Hoping for the Blues as well, but I think it will take seven.

Go Bruins. Its just feels so much better knowing Leafs fans hate the Bruins.
