We are seeing more and more new proposals, every week!

Whitaker Park Apartments:
Whitaker Park Apartments will have 210 units and could begin construction in Spring 2017. It will be an adaptive reuse project, but could also include new construction. Whitaker Park is a massive adaptive reuse and new construction development that will have around 2.5 million square feet of residential, office, and retail, when it's completed.
Reynolds Athletic Complex:
Workers are cutting windows into the 1950s building. This was originally a windowless box, but the arched recesses are great places to add arched windows.

Livery Apts:
Lisha Construction is the general contractor and Solomon Development, which relocated from Baltimore to Winston-Salem, is the developer. The city will build a park next to the development.
757 North:
Creative Builders is the general contractor for this project. A forum member at WSTB shared a few photographs. I'll share one of them on this thread.

Yes, another hotel proposal! Someone is buying options on properties, a block south of the ballpark (near the expressway), for an 8-storey hotel and an apartment development. The developer is unknown at this time. No details on how many apartments or square feet of retail the project may have? We also don't know the hotel flag or how many keys this hotel will have? It's currently before a review board.

Bailey Business Center - Building 23-2: (Bailey Power Plant Complex)
This week, we have photographs from Seekircher Steel Window of Peekskill, NY.,. They will restore the existing historic steel windows in the Bailey Power Plant. Parts of the windows will have to be reconstructed. Maybe they will continue to give us updates on the work! Thanks to someone at an engineering firm, working on the project, we can now confirm the building will have a movie theatre.

innovateHER:
innovateHER is new and headquartered in downtown's IQ District, offering programs and services focused on entrepreneurial education, startups, and business growth. Fay Horwitt said “Women entrepreneurs experience very unique challenges and barriers to entry and business growth. innovateHER has been created to help local women navigate these barriers and experience growth.” In the first two weeks, 50 women have already joined.
Convention Center Renovation:
Our first photographic update on this project! Workers are removing the 1960s sunken gardens, to expand the convention center to the sidewalk, for more meeting space and prefunction space. Did you know: This was North Carolina's first convention center. It was designed by HOK in the 1960s.

Hotel Indigo:
The official name of the development group is Mayfair Street Partners, so we will use that name for the developer. Hotel Indigo is now confirmed. The hotel will have a steakhouse and martini bar on the beautiful Art Deco ground floor, using the vintage Sir Winston name. The basement will become the Prince Albert Restaurant & Bar. Their plans also include meeting space and a nice fitness center. The number of keys depends on an expansion to the west of the building, where the facade is extremely rough. If they don't expand, the hotel will have 75 rooms. If they do expand, it "could" have 110 rooms, but I'm not sure? We may have to wait until the official announcement, later this week, to have more clarity on the expansion. So, don't be surprised if we see changes to this information in next week's update. To gain additional space for the hotel, they will move the elevators. Even if they don't expand with more hotel rooms, they may add a small expansion for the elevators. No word on if they will keep the remaining original 1928 Otis Elevator? I'm expecting the two rough sides to be reclad, with the west side possibly seeing an expansion. This expansion will reduce the size of Merschel Plaza, but I view that as great news, since it will also reduce the cost of the park and maybe allow for more upgrades to the park?
I rotated, enlarged and cleaned-up the following image, so you can see how the hotel will fit in the building and can clearly see the expansion, which will be built where the Richardson Romanesque Crawford Building once stood. They do own that site.

This is the park with underground parking that will be constructed around the Hotel Indigo (shown as Pepper Building) using millions in bonds already approved by voters and additional fundraising for more extras. It also shows the cap over Third Street for SciWorks. Yes, Winston-Salem's terrain is rough enough to allow a cap in the middle.

There are only two Hotel Indigos in North Carolina, in downtown Asheville and Research Triangle Park. Winston-Salem will soon have the third Hotel Indigo in the state.
Top Shelf Headquarters:
It appears as if the building formerly known as 527 North Trade is now called Top Shelf Headquarters. Sources are saying WME Talent & Literary Agency (William Morris Endeavor Entertainment) of Beverly Hills leased the office space for their sports marketing and hospitality division HQ. The building will have Top Shelf's headquarters on the top floor, Crafted: The Art of the Taco on the ground floor, and an arts and event space in the basement.
New Winston Museum:
The 1941 Radio Center Studios Building, at 419 Spruce Street, was purchased by the Arts Council and will become the new downtown home of The New Winston Museum, which is the city's history museum. The National Black Theatre Hall of Fame and Museum may also temporarily open in this space, allowing them to open before the next National Black Theatre Festival. Both museums are also talking about working together on a space, which could move the National Black Theatre Hall of Fame and Museum to this building? Long term plans could include dance or other performance space in this building.

National Black Theatre Hall of Fame and Museum:
Architects have started work on the building, but the Hall of Fame may select another building (see above)? The architects are looking at the original drawings from 1926, to help with the design of the adaptive reuse project, and shared this image, shown below.

SciWorks Downtown:
Construction could start in 18 months and they expect construction to take 30 months, which I'm guessing may include demolition?
The O'Hanlon:
The developer has decided to try something different from what they usually build. The O'Hanlon will become mixed-use office and residential. The office space will be designed and marketed to research and technology companies. To appeal to young millennials and tech companies, they will restore the interior of the building to its original 1915 appearance, including removing past renovations and exposing the original beams on the ceiling and the original terrazzo floors. They have the original blueprints and I would like to see the windows restored to their original appearance. The developer will construct a rooftop terrace for all tenants and a large top floor luxury penthouse with mountain views. A "blow-out bar" has leased space in the project and the Mediterranean restaurant will continue as a tenant and remain open during renovations. GEMCAP is the general contractor and STITCH Design Shop is the architect.

Archaeology: Rudolph's Kiln:
Archaeologists found the Kiln last week. The body of the Kiln is most likely intact. Workers at the pottery made creamware, coarse & refined earthenware, and stoneware. Geoffrey Hughes said “It’s amazing to me how much skill these potters had. People would come to Winston-Salem for things they couldn’t get from their local potter.”

TW Garner Headquarters:
The design, for the new construction addition, is more visible. This is both an adaptive reuse project and new construction. TW Garner makes Texas Pete Hot Sauce.

Western Film Festival & Nostalgia Convention:
The 39th National Western Film Festival & Nostalgia Convention is July 13-16. See 3D special screenings of classic films and meet celebrities from your favorite westerns and classic television shows. If you're a collector, they also have dealers selling everything from lobby cards to vintage vinyl records. The event will have live entertainment and much more. They have a long list of celebrities attending... to many to name. If you like vintage westerns and classic television shows, you may want to visit Winston-Salem for this event. It's a major national festival held in Winston-Salem every summer.
Ansel Adams - Eloquent Light:
Do you like photography? If so, you should consider visiting this exhibition at Reynolda House Museum of American Art. You only have until July 17! The photographs in the exhibit have never been on display together and Reynolda House is the only museum this exhibition will appear in. The National Parks Conservation Association has joined Reynolda House as the National Outreach Partner for the exhibition. Reynolda House will embark on a series of events and talks focused on themes of sustainability and preservation. If you're visiting Winston-Salem this month, this is a must see!
