^This really puts into perspective how large the moving Culture Shed is. It's basically the size of a mid-rise building.

30 Hudson in the distance (along with the cluster we call Hudson Yards). As viewed from the tip of the island. 10 Hudson is beautiful as the light shimmers off its glass.

It's a shopping mall, what do yo expect it to look like?

That's ridiculous. So because it's a mall, it must not be allowed to look good?

(from above) "It's a shopping mall, what do yo expect it to look like?". .
like it's in Manhattan, home of world class architects, . .
like KPF, who designed 30HY . .
certainly it shouldn't look like a typical Kansas City or Houston suburban mall . .
lets raise our expectations a little . . ya get what you expect . .

It doesn't look like any of that.

With some saying Amazon killed malls, I disagree. It's just, malls have to step it up. Step their game up! They can't be banal. They have to be fun, places where folks shop, hang out, meet others, spend a day in. The type of place where people will take a day trip too.

Mall at 30 HY attempts to reinvent what a mall is. Grandiose in nature, with the energy of the city streets.

I do hope the success is on the level of the Macy's. Really, what makes the Macy's on 34th great is the energy of that mall. It's a cluster****, but it's fun, especially around Christmas.

Simply put, they are building an entire city at Hudson Yards. There is no traditional 5th Avenue or Madison Ave with shops on the west side. So we get the Shops at Hudson yards. This won't be a typical suburban mall with suburban style foodcourts, etc. This is (will be) Manhattan in the layout of a mall because that's the only way they could build it. There will be real restaurants, the shopping will be more upscale in nature (but there will be a balance according to Related). The west side will get a focal shopping center it currently does not have.
