Simply put, they are building an entire city at Hudson Yards. There is no traditional 5th Avenue or Madison Ave with shops on the west side. So we get the Shops at Hudson yards. This won't be a typical suburban mall with suburban style foodcourts, etc. This is (will be) Manhattan in the
layout of a mall because that's the only way they could build it. There will be real restaurants, the shopping will be more upscale in nature (but there will be a balance according to Related). The west side will get a focal shopping center it currently does not have.
