Yeah, this is a great little infill project. One design element I don't like are the bay windows (or whatever those would be called) near the front corner of the building on the second floor.

Looks good! I like the varied facade. Should make for an interesting presence at street-level.

Fantastic, and I suspect that RCMP property will be on the market once they move to Burnside

The same thing caught my eye. It doesn't fit. Hopefully they can be omitted from the final presentation.

I wonder if the potential widening of Bayers Rd will impact how close the building is to the sidewalk?

It's not bad. I don't have a problem with the boxout windows (that's what we typically call them around the office), but if I were renting or buying in this building I would avoid the units that had them. I much prefer a balcony to a boxout window.

I wonder if this will start some interest in this area and will create some lot assembling for other projects?

I wish that style had died out in the 70's or 80's.

I hope to god that isn't vinyl siding I see. I am not a fan of that look even if it is Hardieboard or cedar.

My colleague who is 60 and lives half a block away in a house she owns on Young said today "Did you see that development at the end of my street?" I think "here comes the NIMBY" and she says instead "I'm moving there when I sell the house... do you think its rental or condos?"

She is dead serious. Thinks it is the best thing for the neighbourhood.

Oxford has a very bright future, so does all of the West End

I think so as well... the west end is really an "urban suburb", most of it was built in the 1950's but is still very close to DT and the southend.

Community mobilizing against west-end Halifax development
By Alex Boutilier

A group of residents in Halifax’s West End are preparing to fight a proposed development at the corner of Bayers Road and Oxford Street.

W.M. Fares Group is proposing a five-storey mixed use development on three parcels of land long occupied by an abandoned service station. The proposed development would be mixed-use, including retail, 27 rental housing units, and underground parking...
I wish I could say I was shocked?
See the full article for the rest.

Also got this in my district newsletter for those interested in attending:
Bayers and Oxford Development Public Information Meeting – June 27

A meeting concerning a re-development proposal for the corner of Bayers and Oxford on the site of the former gas station (south-west corner) will take place on Wed June 27 at 7 pm at the Maritime Hall, Halifax Forum – entrance off Almon St (by Bingo Hall). The proposal is to develop a five-storey mixed-use building comprised of ground floor commercial uses, upper storey residential uses, and underground parking. The building will have 27 dwelling units and 29 parking spaces. The application by W.M. Fares Group is to amend the Halifax Peninsula Land Use By-law (LUB) to apply Schedule L and enter into a development agreement process to permit a five-storey building. I wonder if this is a large group or a few vocal NIMBYs. In my opinion, this development will increase nearby property values.
