Cross Country Canada was a computer game we always played at school, but I think it works alright here too. Last August I moved from Calgary to St. John's, Newfoundland to begin university. The trip actually started in Victoria, so it truly was a cross-country drive. Aside from a 3-day break-down in Swift Current, SK we made pretty good time, so I don't have many photos until Quebec City. Other places in the thread are Montreal, Lake Superior, Swift Current, Moosomin, SK, Winnipeg, Halifax, rural Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton Island.
BTW, this was my second cross-continent road-trip of the summer. In case you missed it,
here is my first thread from the US trip.
Enjoy.
Canola fields just West of Calgary; this is home for me, and always will be. If I turned just to the left you would see the front range of the Rockies.
From our unplanned three-day visit to Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Along the Trans-Canada Highway just before crossing into Manitoba is Moosomin, Saskatchewan. I spent about a month here in 2008 for work. This storm followed us all day from the moment we left Swift Current; there was a lightning strike every second or two for hours, it was the most intense storm I've ever witnessed.
Since we lost three days, we went straight from Swift Current to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (2200km (just under 1400mi) according to Google Maps). We stopped for about half and hour in Winnipeg at about 2am.
This was along Lake Superior about halfway between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.
The next day we continued on to Lachute, Quebec. Passing through Ottawa at about 10pm.
We then continued on to visit family in Shawinigan, stopping briefly in Montreal and Trois-Rivieres. Montreal's pride parade just happened to be going on at the time; my dad loved it.
Trois-Rivieres
By then we had made up some lost time, so we were able to spend two nights in Quebec City. That was good timing because as we were pulling into the hotel we realized that a wheel bearing had gone.
From Quebec we went to Cape Breton (the ferry to Newfoundland leaves from North Sydney), but we stopped in Halifax for an hour or so, then drove up Nova Scotia's seaside Highway 7.
Thanks for viewing. Now I have plenty of Newfoundland photos to go through, but my next thread will be Oslo, which I visited last Summer for a week.
