TORONTO | Design Haus | 63 M / 206 FT | 19 FLOORS

Address: 231-237 College Street
Developer: Shiu Pong
Architect: Kirkor Architects

I hope the city doesn't allow this development, however I have a feeling we are going to lose this beautiful building.

Replacing this building with this garbage...

That would be a disaster. I would accept the condo building if they kept the brickwork in the podium, otherwise this one needs to be vetoed at every opportunity!!

A 19 story relatively attractive condo being blocked due to a non-descript 3 story brick building?

I count 21 floors of a ugly, non-descript building. The brickwork has character, albeit in need of a clean up. There's far too many buildings like this in Toronto being bulldozed and it's about time that destruction is stopped and some maintenance put in place.

I see it as 21 floors of sleek black framed glass providing a solid urban presence replacing a 3 story average brick building that's clearly outlived it's density. All buildings are torn down eventually, and if something of equal or greater urban presence is built in it's place then it's a gain.

There's the crux. I appreciate tastes differ, and I'm happy to agree to disagree.

I do like brick, don't get me wrong, but 3 stories can't compete with 20 in my eyes when both fill the lot. Especially when the twenty is sleek black like this seems to be meant to be. Sleek black metal is probably the one thing that beats brick in to me.

I do love height, don't get me wrong. If I had my way no building would be permitted less than 40 floors. However, I do also have a love for old brick buildings. I fear too many will be lost for ever and future generations won't be able to appreciate their beauty except in photographs.
