Do you mean the current tunnel?

The current tunnel is free but it only 4 lanes wide (2 each direction) with a counter flow set up that reduces southbound to one lane in the morning and northbound to one lane in the evening.

The new bridge will be 10 lanes wide, 5 in each direction (as shown on the diagrams).

It will likely cost between 3 to 4 dollars to use.

Ah, okay, I understand.

Yes, the Oak Street bridge will remain, and it is 4 lanes.

The proposed HOV / Bus lanes will exit just before the bridge approach on Bus only ramps.

So it will be 3 lanes merging into 2.

It has been calculated that 60% of the northbound traffic through the current GMT is actually for Richmond, not Vancouver. So theoretically traffic increases on the oak Street Bridge should not be substantial.

IMO the Oak Street bridge should also be replaced with a 6 lane structure (with the two shoulder lanes being add/ drop lanes on the North End) but the city of Vancouver has a strict "no new car lanes" into the city policy.

Sadly Vancouver environmentalism is a lot more extreme than in other areas of Canada (where you can have environmental concerns, but not all forms of highways are seen as evil).

ok thanks, so it's basically a bridge for Richmond and the airport. it seems all agricultural land in Richmond will disappear in the near future, towards Hwy-91.

Actually no, all that agricultural land is in the ALR. (Agricultural Land Reserve)

That is one of the big reasons why the new Steveston interchange is going to be a very compact (European / Asian looking IMO) hybrid of a stacked / diverging free flow interchange, so that minimal to no ALR is lost.

good to know, here in Montréal we have a similar case. Laval has many farmland east of A-19, which are also protected.

Yeah, it is a good program to have, especially since most of Canada's best farm land is near our largest urban centres.

Some pile driving test equipment out for the new Massey Bridge.

Still a while to start but things are already moving fast.

Great post, but this thread already exists. I made it several years ago (and I am not going to let the only continuously active thread out of those that I have initiated be replaced, hehe).

So maybe the mods can close this one and merge this post with it?

Today's the day Edmonton's new Walterdale Bridge gets its 950-tonne central span lifted onto the next two segments. I attended the media event and got some photos from a vantage few others get.

That must be the nicest bridge in the country, or at least on par with the ones in Quebec city, Montreal and Vancouver.
