If you know the area at all, you will know from that angle that the Millenium Tower is about 700m further away from the camera than the BD.

Drawing a straight line accross the pic gives a false representation.

....a more accute angle to highlight the camera phenomena.....

In that case.....it must be at least 350m in this picture!

In answer to your question AltinD, floorwise they're still on 82 but I take it to the pinnacle of concrete construction.
exluding the steel reinforcing that pokes out above the yellow (now brown) panels!

It can't be classed as official sure, but I try only to give the most accurate detail as I can based on the 'facts' we
already know.

However, if the last official height at level 44 was measured to the last finished floor and not to the uppermost construction
then I suppose that would undersell the average level and by now would put the BD above 315m tall.

I'm sure SSC fans, will stick to their number, for now we'll stick to ours!

But I think we all agree, that 277m at Level 80 was understated!

A strange perspective!

....twising the picture still doesn't give one a sense of dimentional perspective!

Well, im sorry that i've never been to Dubai.. Imre told me that these two towers from that place are the same distance. Also Tom Green made some calculations with the google earth, and he got to the same colnclusion.

I was going go to Dubai at the end of March next year but have decided I'm going again in the second week of January.

I'm going to be prepared properly this time armed with all the gadgets I can get my hands on.

I'll document it by video and post in on the site.

I'll attempt:

1) To accurately measure the thing again (laser guided triangulation)

2) Get some great shots for my personal album.

3) Get the first forumer interior shots without getting arrested!

I'll also try and get some new stuff for other threads too (Dubailand, The Palms, Marina etc)

Around this time the BD should be approaching 'tallest in Dubai' as well.

I'll have to invest in a DSLR Camera and update the site daily.

I'll be there for a week or so and I'll ask Slugbelch to add the stuff to the forum.

Cant wait, its going to be exciting. We will know the truth wether the last Emaar publication was right or the majority of the forumers here and on SSC.

No problem.

Good luck with the interior shots and most of all, HAVE FUN... and don't get busted! We don't need to see a thread of:

"Forumer in Burj Dubai jail for taking construction updates. Please help!"

You don't have to spend a lot of time with height calculations and stuff to please/prove to others. That's just time taken away from great picture taking. Most of all, just for a little while, put the camera down and just admire what you are actually seeing before you. Very few (even skyscraper forumers) can witness what is beeing done there and you are one, of a very fortunate few, who have the chance.

Thank you my friend. Although that thread name does have a good ring to it!

I will have fun, I'll be taking my girlfriend on our first holiday together in 3 years.

I've got it all sussed.....me on a mad camera rampage whilst she's shopping!

This building must be so well documented, but great stuff like this is few and far between!

I hope the Megastructures documentary on the Burj Dubai will shed some new info for us lot, as I'll be glued to the screen when it's aired on Discovery soon!

There was a Megastructures episiode about concrete structures on the 14th November that had a ten minute part on the Burj Dubai whilst at level 30, so was quite old but at least someone is documenting it!

Whether it will be shown before or after completion remains to be seen!
