Here is one of the renders. I'm glad this version didn't happen. I'm guessing it'll be pretty nice so I'm excited to see some renders!

Edit - whoops. Wrong thread. Although I suppose this is a better place to discuss...

For the new rotunda space -

My guess is Uniqlo (even though the upper mall is high end)..
They're opening a 2 level 28,000 sq ft store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre - so Pacific Centre makes sense.

There's a pic of the Toronto store by Kyle Alexander, here:
http://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads...7#post-1132879

So expect a modernist box with big warehouse loft-like display windows (?) -
should be right up Busby's alley.

Although MGBA (of Vancouver) was Uniqlo's architect of record for the Toronto stores.
http://mgba.com/wp/uniqlo-opens-help-mgba-toronto/
Maybe that was interior design only.

Controversy swirls as wine sales in grocery stores increase
Wine licence auctions, Save-on-Foods moves ensure more B.C. grocers will sell wine
By Glen Korstrom | July 22, 2016, 5:30 p.m.

...
Overwaitea Food Group (OFG) launched wine sales at its eighth Save-On-Foods grocery store in Parksville, on July 15, and OFG president Darrell Jones told Business in Vancouver that he expects to have wine sales at a ninth store, in White Rock, in early August.

“A wine section will also open in our Prince George store later this year,” Jones said.

Jim Pattison Group-owned OFG had previously launched wine sales at two Save-On-Foods stores in Surrey, two in Kelowna and one each in Tsawwassen, Langley and Maple Ridge.

All of those stores operate under operating agreements that OFG has with the British Columbia Wine Institute to use its licences.

OFG bid to buy all six wine-sale licences that the B.C. government put up for auction in late April and early May. In each case, however, it was outbid by Toronto-based rival Loblaw Companies Ltd. (TSX:L), Jones said.

“They were very expensive,” he said of the licences, which required a minimum bid of $125,000 each, plus a $25,000 refundable deposit.

Prices were high but I expected that.

I have seen one of the BC content wine stores in Langley. Honestly I think this is one of the dumbest ideas out there. Why is it safer to sell BC wines in stores than allowing AT THE VERY LEAST any beer and wine to be sold in grocery stores. Oh well, can't expect too much logic from our government.

I do like that Moreno's in Langley (200th) recently reno'd their market and made half of it a liquor store. I guess it is a roundabout way to integrate the two.

90% of those products are just rebranded big names. I have seen a few Kirkland XYZ by (insert famous name here) including things that were pretty pricey.

Across the united states it works, I don't understand why it can't work here.

Yes, they also have Kirkland Reserve wines. Nothing to slouch at.

And it's not just a US thing, as Alberta has Costco liquor outlets. Wine there is about 10-30% cheaper than in BC, and that doesn't always take into account the additional taxes that are added to BC purchases.

It looks awkward on the Howe St render.

Thanks for posting.

It looks like a retail block for Robson St. or West 4th, etc. not for the middle of downtown.

The 3rd floor restaurant space will be attractive to a tenant, because it over looks the VAG north plaza.

I'd rather see something more daring in design - a 4 storey Van Dusen pavilion?

From the second rendering - assuming that the blank wall on Howe wraps around the back of the building,
the side facing the Four Seasons looks like it's a blank wall.

It's not as integrated as it should be on the Howe St. side
(i.e. there's a staircase down into the mall from Howe St. - it doesn't even appear on the rendering).
as a mall entrance

Don't mind it. Anything is better than that hideous 80's dome ( one of my colleagues refers to it as the nipple ),which had nothing to do with the original design of Pacific Centre and looks horribly dated and tired. It's also better than that previous proposal with the giant A&F flagship.

As far as losing the outdoor plaza, the dome took up and hence ruined most of it when it was built in the 80's and the rest remains a rarely used sort of smoking area today.

That discount t-shirt store on Granville has a For Lease sign in the window so maybe it was just a short-term lease?

Lululemon Lab on Broadway @ Cambie has closed and moved to the new Gastown location (50 Water Street).
