They've begun to peel the scaffolding off the base of this building. Looks interesting, quite art deco-y. The first few floors of this building are to remain a Verizon switching station I believe.

I'd love to know the process behind those decorative panels. You don't see that level of detail these days. I prefer the old stolid look of the original building, but they've definitely made something special.

I was skeptical of this project at first, but I think its turning out to be quite spectacular. I know many would disagree with me however...

Anyway, a comparison shot of the early stages of the project:

More of the facade on the Walker Tower has slowly been revealed over the past few weeks. It really looks incredible, my photos don't do it justice.

Love to see that crappy red and white brick building in the foreground get developed. Nevertheless the Walker Tower is looking very Gotham in the background.

yeah there seems to be a big phoney baloney element to the new details, nevertheless they are well done and it looks very good. it will be more noticed and less anonymous gotham deco from now on. and in a good way from the looks of how its turning out.

i had no idea it was still going to partly remain a switching station. interesting how they will hide that.

It's nice to see the building re purposed rather than torn down. I love new construction but there's something to be said for preserving some of the older buildings. Especially if they have a well documented history like this one does.

I can't stop taking photos of the Walker Tower, which is looking incredible IMO. Can't wait for the full reveal.

Most of the facade of the Walker Tower has now been revealed. As you can tell, I walk by this building everyday (on the way to work).

What an improvement! It looked hideous before but now it's majestic.

If every tower in New York had that level of craftsmanship and attention to detail, oh what a wonderful world it would be

The Walker Tower in Chelsea is nearing exterior completion. I walk by it often (on the way to work) so here are a few photos I've taken over the past few weeks:
