My vote for a casino location with percent of revenue for land remediation ... may take a few years. Water taxis to Toronto , Go Train Stop nearby

That's funny. Never stopped Montreal from building a casino on port lands.

These will not get much attention on a site like this, but they represent the kind of intensification that I think we can expect in many places downtown and centrally, and along the King-Main LRT corridor. It will not just happen on empty lots, but through additions and rebuilds.

And all these smaller redevelopments will eventually add up, significantly increasing the density of the core and corridor as much or more than big towers will.

Interesting that the owner did not consider the addition to 125 King E. before the exterior work was done in fall 2015, but perhaps that does not matter.

121-125 King St. E: https://goo.gl/maps/1CdfmSfwtFG2 (I dearly hope to see a replacement of that awful one-storey job on the northeast corner of Catharine; I recall it replaced a building that burned down in the late-1980s or 90s)

you know what I would love? Either a hamilton to toronto ferry, or a hamilton to toronto water bridge. Link the 2 biggest cities in the golden horseshoe together and cut the commute time in half!

That or have an underwater light rail to toronto - how cool would that be - just continue the LRT from the airport right down james, into the water, under the liftbridges, and right to torontos port

The owner of 11-15 Cannon Street West is proposing to demolish the existing townhouse structures and replace them with a six-storey 40-unit apartment building with two ground level commercial units.

I don't think anyone's going to be upset to see these buildings go.

yeesh, those buildings are so bad that if they were knocked down and nothing was rebuilt there for years it would still be better than what is there currently.

A ferry would probably be slower than the bus at rush hour. The Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay ferry in BC covers 24 nautical miles in 1h35 (~15nm/h). Hamilton to Toronto is roughly 36 nautical miles, would be like 2h24m at that speed.

Hamilton’s hot condo market will continue to soar
https://t.co/34KyaLBY8t

While the developers of the Connolly condo filed for receivership last month, city officials are still confident in Hamilton’s hot condo market. They say if there is an open space in the downtown core, there will most likely be a construction site there soon.

“You go back probably ten years and count on one hand the number of new residential units being built in the core, over the last three years we’re up over 1200 units,” said Jason Thorne, General Manager of Planning and Economic Development for the City Of Hamilton.

Thorne says to expect thousands more. Upcoming projects include Television City above our CHCH studios, a 34-storey condo on George street, the Tivoli building, two massive towers above the former Delta Bingo site and right across the street, the revitalized Royal Connaught and its surrounding towers.

Thorne says in fifty years, Hamilton tallest structure, the 39-storey Landmark Place will have a lot of company in making up the city’s skyline.

In the meantime, the core’s growth is almost outpacing the cranes.

“Fifty-four new businesses last year, 27 of them restaurants, 1,037 new jobs alone in downtown Hamilton,” said Hamilton City Councillor Jason Farr.

Councillor Farr and Jason Thorne say that the city is making sure that they don’t get too carried away with towers taking over the city. Thonre says that they pay particularly close attention to the design of any high rise concepts. Farr says that there’s a rule in place that prohibits towers being taller than the escarpment.

replace Tivoli with Acclamation and you have a better article. Still pretty leery about the Tivoli given its and the developer's shaky cred.

I'd bet that the Tivoli will go the same way as the Connolly within the next 5 years but in both cases, a new developer will snatch them up and build fast after that.

From what I hear, Tivoli is moving forward, look for an announcement/reveal by this fall. Heard thye're dealing with mold issues in the old theatre right now.

Got a feeling Tivoli condos will be fine. The market is too strong.

I would think someone will buy Connolly and follow through on it.

I still can't find an official policy regarding this.
