Art Deco Where You Live.

Post any photos of Art Deco buildings in your area or elsewhere you have visited.

Ill start off with where I go to school here in Arkansas. The Pope County Courthouse, built in 1932 employs many beautiful art deco elements and is my favorite building in Russellville. Some morons in the 70s however thought it would be a dandy idea to add an ugly roof to it and it kinda wrecked the verticality of the art deco design, but I still love it.

All of the following photos I have taken.

The most beautiful high school in America, well in my opinion. Central High School in Little Rock, built in 1927. Its where the whole desegregation thing with the Little Rock 9 happened back in the 50s.

Chicago Board of Trade Building, built 1932.

The Gulf Building in Houston, 1927 I believe, its standing next to the now rising 630 ft Main Place Tower.

One of my favourite buildings in Vancouver is the art deco Marine Building (1930). You may recognize it as the Baxter Building in the Fantastic Four movies (except they digitally add a weird top to it).

Some images of mine...

The amount of detail is incredible. I am loving those little etches in the bricks of planes and dirigibles. That building just screams art deco!

The "Schaubühne" in Berlin - Charlottenburg is considered the only
Art Deco Theatre in Europe. Initially built as cinema named "Universum" in 1928.

The Haus des Rundfunks (Broadcasting House) in Berlin-Charlottenburg is built in 1931 and has an Art Deco lobby.

The Beisheim Center in Berlin - Mitte (Potsdamer Platz) houses a Ritz Carlton hotel and is considered as an example of postmodern Art Deco built in 2003.

Um, the only Art Deco I know in Copenhagen/Malmö is probably the extension of the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, build in 1931.

EDIT:

According to visitsweden.com, The Malmö Opera is an "art deco masterpiece", but has as far as I know always been labelled as a fine example of functionalism here in Malmö. You tell me...

The level of detail on and in the Marine Building is astonishing. Vancouver is lucky to have such an art deco masterpiece.

Cool idea for a thread!

Art Deco is extremely rare in New England, as the region was depressed in the 1920's. Here's some from elsewhere:

Jersey City Medcal Center, NJ

Tulsa, OK (some of the best you'll find anywhere)

Battle Creek, MI

Kansas City, MO

And here is a smaller building I quite like in Vancouver, the William Dick Building (1926).

Oh I forgot about this beautiful building I shot in Toledo a couple years ago. I have no idea what it is though.

How about an Art Deco house?

Hamilton, Ontario

EDIT: I guess this should be in the architecture section, so I'm moving it.
