Maybe its odd shape means that it's lighter than its height makes it seem.

Burj Khalifa is reinforced concrete all the way to 606 m (1,988 ft). Probably it's all about structural system.

I like to see other examples, as long as it doesn't go on for more than one page. Thanks SkyscrapersOfNewYork

...is not a question...and it has little to nothing to do with Carnegie 57. And I thought the new posts would be pictures. Silly me.

EXCELLENT UPDATE nycdagreatest.. Thanks I'm so stoked to watch this tower rise

question though...can someone please tell me a little about this devastatingly ornate and lovely building prominently featured on the right in this photo? I never noticed it before.

That's Alwyn Court. And it's definitely one of the most ornate buildings in the city. It also has a nice atrium. But it used to be even more impressive. At some point it was remodeled and the original cornice was removed (the current cornice is from a restoration).

Petrossian occupies retail space at the corner so you can pick up $13K tins of caviar on your way back home from work.

I love that this tower is rising beside such a lovely old building. The juxtaposition will be fantastic!

^^^ I just noticed that building, really beautiful. As for Carnegie 57: slow but steady, slow but steady.

Question for someone more familiar with the plans than I: In this photo you can see that there are some tall, thin pillars right up front. Will they be load bearing or is the building going to taper back so that the load will be resting on thicker pillars in the interior that I just can't see?
