Luger Dies; What A Sad Opening To The Games

Sad opening to the games on a day that should be so amazing.

Nodar Kumaritashvili of the Georgian republic loses control of his sled and hits a metal pole after being catapulted over the lip of the track, which critics say is too fast. Training is suspended.

Sad, terrible, and tragic start to the games.

Tragic. No matter how much hootin' and hollerin', champagne and confetti they haul out, this is going to cast a shadow over the entire event, even though the media will do their best to try to make people not think about it.

10-years of anticipation for this event in our city...and it's going to be overshadowed by this tragic event.....sigh.

RIP.

As a footnote to this sad event, I'd like people to think of this: yes, it is a real tragedy and horror that the young man was killed so instantly.

However, it is his parents who will have to bear a lifetime of grief and mourning for the rest of their lives. Their pain, in that sense, is far worse.
