are there renderings of the final design? i'm still not sure what it's supposed to look like as they keep changing it. hope they have a better design than the last set of changes they made.

really? it looks pretty conventional to me. and they really need to clean up the area, change those old street lights and poles and the dirty concrete divider. graphic design and install more attractive signage, plant more trees.

i think these are the latest and final renderings of the complex. it's in archasia's (now populous) website. i'm not crazy about those circular cutouts and the molten glass cladding around all the trees behind it. it looks peculiar.

I just realized where Taipei Dome is located... my grand parents used to live in the Taiwan Alcohol & Tobacco Monopoly Bureau housing complex on this site. It was a very depressing looking (and shoddily constructed) series of 6 story concrete block buildings.

Taipei Dome's building contract to be altered: city spokesman

2015/01/21 23:23:31

Taipei, Jan. 21 (CNA) The building contract of the Taipei Dome, a multi-use stadium under construction, will be altered through negotiations, Lin Ho-ming (林鶴明), a spokesman for the Taipei City government, said Wednesday.

Lin said that Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) and Chao Teng-hsiung ( 趙藤雄), chairman of the Farglory Dome, after an one-hour meeting at the city hall Wednesday night, agreed to change parts of the contract signed by Farglory and the city government under Ko's predecessor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌).

Farglory Dome said in a statement issued after the meeting that the mayor promised to do its utmost to help the builder while Farglory promised to complete the stadium before the end of the year.

Regarding the technical issues, including the design of a underground passage linking the dome and the nearby Dr. Sun Yet-sen Memorial Hall and the relocation of street trees for that passage, they will be resolved through negotiations between the two parties, said the Farglory Dome.

The meeting was held after the mayor and Chao exchanged barbs in the media over Ko's proposal to change the design of the passage.

Ministry of Interior approves Taipei Dome fire prevention plans
Decision could be turning point in Taipei Dome deadlock

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – In a move likely to break the two-year deadlock surrounding the construction of the Taipei Dome (大巨蛋), the Ministry of Interior (MOI) Thursday approved adapted plans concerning fire prevention and safety escapes for the project.

Work on the 40,000-seat arena complex was halted in May 2015 amid sharp differences between Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) and chief contractor Farglory Group (遠雄) chief Chao Teng-hsiung (趙藤雄), for a large part about safety concerns.

The MOI’s Construction and Planning Agency (營建署) said Thursday a committee of 11 experts had held 19 meetings to review the new design plans and told Farglory about its unanimous decision.

The next step was that the company needed to apply with the Taipei City Government for a relevant change in the building permit, the MOI said. It was up to the city to determine whether the changed plans would need new environmental impact and urban design reviews, according to the MOI.

Separately, a key adviser to Mayor Ko admitted during questioning by the Taipei City Council Thursday that she had held secret meetings with Chao.

Tsai Pi-ju (蔡壁如), officially a city government adviser, said she had met the Farglory chairman “two or three times,” the first time with the mayor, to discuss the possibility of ending the Taipei Dome contract between the city and the company. She came under fire from opposition city councilors because no deputy mayor had been present, while no record of the meetings and the discussions reportedly existed.

New Taipei City offices raided in corruption probe

By Jason Pan / Staff reporter

Law enforcement officials yesterday raided the offices of the New Taipei City Government, the New Taipei City Council and real-estate developer Farglory Group (遠雄集團) to collect evidence and summoned 60 people for questioning in a probe into allegations of bribe-taking by city officials.
Farglory Group chairman Chao Teng-hsiung (趙藤雄), Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) New Taipei City Councilor Chou Sheng-kao (周勝考), as well as five city officials were among the people who were questioned.
The Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office coordinated with the Ministry of Justice’s Agency Against Corruption (AAC) and other judicial units to carry out the raids at 50 locations.
Prosecutors are looking into allegations that company executives bribed councilors and government officials to expedite the review and monitoring process, circumvent an environmental impact assessment and other required steps to obtain approvals for construction projects in the city’s Tucheng (土城) and Sinjhuang (新莊) districts, among other places.
Hai Chih-ping (海治平), the deputy chief in charge of engineering and construction works at New Taipei City Urban and Rural Development Department was also brought in for questioning.
Hai is responsible for monitoring the approval process for the development projects.
One focus of the probe is a 14-hectare plot in Tucheng District, which Farglory purchased in 2007 to build a residential complex for 2,500 households.
However, some local residents and environmental groups said that 60 percent of the land is hilly terrain with a history of landslides and flash floods, and had been designated as a potential geo-hazard.
The land also contained several cultural relics and should not be open to development, they said.
Prosecutors said some city officials, along with some councilors, expedited the process of changing the area’s classification from a class 2 industrial zone into residential development zone.
The councilors also pushed through an extemporaneous motion to approve an environmental impact assessment report.
Chao is also being investigated for allegedly illegally transferring company assets and other illicit financial transactions related to several construction projects of Farglory Group’s insurance and real-estate development subsidiaries in 2007, for which he received large sums of money as “consultant fees.”
Prosecutors said the investigation would focus on charges on fraud, breach of trust, embezzlement, forgery of documents, along with violations of the Securities and Exchange Act (證券交易法) and the Businenss Entity Accounting Act (商業會計法).
