I can readily see the project to take on the role that Eastern Market does in D.C. To my mind, I can't think of anything similar to it in Chicago but it will be great to have one if that is what they are going for. We have the French Market but that has a bit of a different feel as that is more geared towards in/out transit riders rather than as a destination itself.
With both Le Cordon Bleu and Kendall being so close by perhaps there could be some great partnerships with student vendors.......
Greg Hinz has a story on Crains that Google is shopping around for expansion, Chicago included in the prospects. 1-5K jobs looking to tap into Big 10 grads who don't want to move to CA due to cost of living.
Sterling Bay's rash of new office proposals for Fulton Market making a bit more sense now.

Sterling Bay offering +1 million sqft near their current Chicago HQ would certainly be a draw for them. Crains has reported that Fulton Market will have 20,000 new jobs over the next 2 years so an additional 5k from Google will continue the boom in the area

Anyone know what the deal with Nobu is? Have they resumed construction? Thought there was some talk a few weeks ago about how another developer bought the property.
^ Yeah, looks like they went for a more mid-century look, with the cantilevered canopy and roman bricks. Apart from the color palette, this looks like a doctor's office you would see on Peterson or Devon...

Which looks much better with the large expanses of masonry. And it banishes those oversized caged-glass lanterns back to the digital dumpster where they below.
This will be a respite of (kinda)sophistication amid the industrial pastiche.
Great news on the preservation front... Per the Chicago DPD's twitter feed: "Commission OKs a $228,000 grant from the Adopt-a-Landmark fund for the First Church of Deliverance, 4315 S. Wabash. The project will restore the church’s terra cotta facade and interior murals and doors."
^ Wow, that's an interesting church. Never heard of it before. Really unique. Its design seems a bit off putting at first (especially with its gratuitous use of glass block windows) but it definitely grows on you. Glad its getting restored.
