It rhymes well but sounds a bit weird in French for a condo building. Especially since there is only one "opening"... so the plural doesn't really fit.

Something like "La Lucarne" (opening in a building to let light in) would be better I think.

An article in info07.com says it is 60% sold.

I'd love to see Gatineau have a condo boom. I'd also love to see them do more daring things with building and design than Ottawa, including building taller. If they did it may get people on the Ottawa side questioning what we're so afraid of; why we're acting like such a small town.

Sounds like Marc Bureau really wants to see some life in downtown Gatineau. He says there's another 4-5 projects in the works. It's also good to see Heafey wants to build more projects in downtown Gatineau.

Actually, downtown Gatineau is affected by the same regulation. And their last designs are really... really not that great, not to say crap.

You can see the casino through that hole, it's an ace: "L'as à Hull". Oops, that sounds like some other orifice

Few months back I dropped in to chat with the builder and they said the "hole" did not exist anymore. It was to be a 2 storey spa/gym room but it ended up being sold as a one-off 2 storey unit to someone.

There aren't really any regulations per se. Only NCC attempts at coercion. We addressed in another thread recently but I cannot remember which one.

That was a few days at least but indeed their Facebook page does confirm that construction as started. I haven't been there for a few days at least, since I'm currently at Tunney's for a bit therefore not passing by the site.

Their website has also been updated - Construction has started.. possession Summer 2013.

http://leviu.ca/viu.php

Also it's 19 floors (not 18) with 3 underground parking levels. I'll update the title of the thread.

If you notice there is no thirteenth floor; therefore it is 18 stories total.

Couple of excavators on site now. The wall obstructed the view so I could not see how much digging or other stuff has been done so far.

About 40 or so units are left - 70% sold. Not much ground digging done so far.

Well, lot of activity on the site the past few days. I guess the reason I wasn't seeing much is that all the trucks are lined up along Notre-Dame de l'Ile Street rather then Laurier. And the neighbors as expected complaning about the constant noise from the moving trucks and construction from 7 to 5 and six days a week. Yes, they are working on site on Saturdays apparently.
