Agreed, but the new WTC in all is a worthy successor enough for the old WTC. But with that being said, nothing will replace the dominance and iconic grandeur of the Twin Towers when all is said and done.

More on-topic, I didn't see one yet for NY Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. It's probably not even worth it to mention. I'm sure our opinions will be close to 100 percent agreement.

One for Pittsburgh:

Former convention center to the behemoth of one they have now -- BETTER!!!!

Sorry, I do not possess any pics of either one.
Apology for the delayed response.

Here's another picture from 1909, except from ground level.

All those lines were interconnected through Grand Central Terminal. This was all planned for the proposed Terminal City and a new high end blvd you might recognize today as Park Avenue (which is not built yet in the photo), and also included the super secret platform number 61, aka F.D.R's quick private highway from GCT to the Waldorf Astoria hotel.

About the Convention Center pics (here they are).

^ I'd say the current is a tad bit worse than the prior. But both are great buildings, but architecturally the old building is superior. You're not wrong either, I could see where people prefer the current building.

I find the Police HQ more architecturally interesting for a low-rise building but overall I'd say it's the SAME.

Thanks for the David Lawrence Convention Center pics, Big Apple. I agree the 2003 construction is far better. That dark dungeon from 1981 really wasn't doing the city any favors at all. From the looks of that old photo, I'd say that was circa 1983 or 1984 and taken from teh vicinity of either the Gulf Tower or the Koppers Building. In that pic you have:

Liberty Center (Federated Building and Westin Hotel) not yet built, and it was completed in 1986.
Pressley Street Highrise across the river is built (completed in 1982).

Going back to the initial photo, it is fascinating to see how Terminal City was developed. Hard to believe that that would become a series of wide streets, a few avenues, and one very massive Park Avenue, filled in with blocks and blocks of office towers.

Hell yes. There's so much detailing at the top of that old building I'm surpised it didn't collapse under it's own weight!

The Trump tower is a tacky, boring, conventional, late 20th Century, glass-walled slab. Bonwit-Teller was classy!
