Crawford,

When you say: "There's at least one more supertall...." are you speaking about 225 or is there another planned tower too?

This tower seems the most interesting in NY right now imo, because of the unknown and the possibility for this to be really tall and really beautiful. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

He left me salivating, too!

& I am incredibly excited for this building. I am confident something spectacular is going to rise here. Given what we've seen from One57 and 432 Park, this is the project that could truly change the game in terms of NY real estate.

No, I'm talking about 57th between 5th & 6th.

I think the Solow Group owns more than half the block. They have a huge development site.

Solow owns 6 & 12 W 57th, Barnett owns 18. Barnett is planning a ~25 story hotel at 18 W57th. I know there was another property along 57th that I can't remember at the moment that was rendered at 500-700' or so... somewhere between 7th and 5th I think.

Regardless, it would be great if Solow were to build something monumental as well...

You're right re. ownership, but Solow owns much more than 6 & 12 West 57th.

Solow owns a number of buildings further down the block, past Barnett's site. I believe he owns most of the block.

If Barnett and Solow combine their assemblages, you would have an enormously lucrative site.

As I recall, the sole remaining structure on the site (i.e., 225 W 57th) is 12 stories and will be razed once the supermarket moves.

Last time I'll post this, but seems appropriate for this thread. This photomontage gives the idea of what a ~1,200 foot tower would look like in this location from the Upper West Side.

We definitely need to stop counting our chickens before they hatch! If I could have a dollar for every proposal never materialized...

While we obviously don't know the details, everything points in the direction that something will rise here - We'll just have to wait and see what exactly that is.

I respectfully disagree. Extell has spent many years and hundreds of millions of dollars assembling a site which can support a 300-400m tower with ultra-expensive apartments, for which, there's a keen demand. It would make no financial sense to build anything less.

I walked by the site of the new store, 140 W57th, on 23 April 2012, and observed that it's under construction. Many DOB permits are displayed in the window.

Here's 225 W 57th, as of 21 April 2012:

Yes. It's very close. Here's another recent photo of the 58th Street side of the 225 W57th site. One 57 is seen a few buildings to the east.

That small area is going to have a great collection of tall buildings in a few years. Will be nice to walk around there and see all the new additions so close to each other.

Yea i thought they were more than a few buildings apart. Looking from central park these buildings are going to be like to huge beautiful pillars, that is if this gets a good design which i really hope it does. Only if this could take the design of tower verre and keep the height, that would look wicked cool from the park.

Wow that section is going to be amazing in a few years, I wonder if like One57 and 432park this is going to be "under construction" long before it is officially under construction if you know what I mean?

Permits were filed with the DOB for creation of a new supermarket at 140 W 57th St. I walked by on 8 May 2012, and work is progressing.
