The TRAX station awnings were installed last night at the Jackson/Euclid station (800 W). I took a picture, but it was pretty dark when I was out there to catch the bus to work this morning.

Draper TRAX Line

New station on the Draper extension of the TRAX Blue Line.

The platform is next to the IFA Grain Elevator in Draper.

It is across the street from the Draper Library and Pioneer Square.

The tracks cross Pioneer Road and then dead-end next to Draper Park.

Thanks for the pics TedBell. It's not often that we see pics of the extension to the Blue line.

Wow. I just realized I have no idea what Draper looks like besides from I-15.

Me neither. Perhaps I'll walk around Draper when the Blue Line extension opens up. The posts and stations look very simple and cheap, especially when compared to the North Temple stations.

I'm guessing the canopies will look like these (Fashion Place West) when finished. True, North Temple is looking really nice.

I don't think so. I am reasonably certain they are finished. Looks like they are taking cues from the industrial style of the elevators next door.

You may be right. I couldn't tell if the white material is on top or underneath the galvanized steel.

On the other hand, the galvanized steel blends in with the grain elevator... I think the simpler lines would fit better than the curly-ques on the Fashion Place station.

Are they still planning on running the old trains down the blue line extension?
I notice that this station has the wheelchair ramps that the other new TRAX lines running the new trains don't have....

It is my understanding that they will continue to run the SD-100's (or 160's?) on the Blue Line while the Red and Green Lines will only operate the S70's. Have you noticed the temporary wheelchair ramps on the third track at Fashion Place West?

From the looks of this picture, it looks to me like they are definitely building wheelchair ramps on the platforms...it just looks a bit incomplete So I am sure they will continue to run the older trains. I don't think UTA has enough of the new trains in their fleet yet to staff all three lines with the new trains...nor do I think that they would retire the older trains so soon...they still have several more years left in them

Taken from inside the windshield of a moving car! (Didn't think they would want me standing on the tracks in the middle of the road.)

Yeah, I've seen the one at Fashion Place. I would have thought that given that there are only a few stations on the Draper extension, and that they will eventually upgrade all of the trains to low-floor models, that they would have just used temporary ramps at the Draper stations as well.

Oh, the SD-100s and SD-160s (which, in case you were wondering, look virtually identical) have another twenty years of service to go, if not more. Not that that's necessarily how long the UTA plans on keeping them, but light rail vehicles last much longer than buses (which are replaced every twelve to fifteen years). Hence the permanent high blocks on the Blue Line extension.

The main design differences I've noticed are in the doors and the headlights.
Unless I'm confused about the differences, the 160s have flat doors that pop out and move to the side (just like the S-70s) while the 100s have folding doors. Also, non of UTAs SD-100s have seating that goes only one direction. (at least, I haven't seen any)

Yup. Pretty much. Also, the SD-100s run on DC and the SD-160s run on AC (or maybe it's the other way around).

Trax Extention

Are there any plans to extend the Trax line further West into West Valley and other cities? Seems like they should have gone deeper into the residential areas to attract more riders and to provide service to those who have no transportation.

There are long range plans for the West Valley (Green Line) to eventually extend out into Magna. The Airport line will eventually extend west and then down 5600 West to meet up with the West Jordan (Red Line) at approximately 90th South.

Both of those are probably 30 to 35 years out at a minimum.

There are also vague plans about extending a line to the bases of the cottonwood canyons.

Thanks for the reply! That was nice to know.
