While I have no argument with the fact that the cantilever "foundation" requires extra construction time, it also seems pretty clear that Barnett is dragging this out as much as humanly possible until he gets this fully funded, and that should be cause for worry.

Lol, One57 is absolute trash, Verre and Steinway are extremely attractive. But One57? Is that a joke? The thing already looks dated and has been standing for only a couple of years. The facade pattern and colors are terrible. The massing is so odd, I certainly would never buy there if I was a billionaire. I'd even buy in one of Sterns regressive designs before One57.

Yea it certainly seems something is up. It should be much farther along

Hopefully it will just be stalled until further funding rather than being capped at a lower height. We've all been jumping for joy at the prospect of a higher-than-Sears building in the US, it would be a real shame to see it not work out.

Pics don't do One57 justice, it looks much better in real life. I agree that the sides may look weird on certain days, but other than that it's a fine building. There are far worse buildings in Manhattan (like the Beaver House Building or 5 Beekman atrocities...).

And btw I wouldn't worry about CPT - it will be built to its full height, I'm certain of that. Barnett is not Shvo.

Again, this cantilever was supposed to take six months, and it's taking six months.

There's no evidence that Barnett is "dragging this out" given that Nordstrom has a move-in date for their store, set years ago. They own the base of this tower.

Now, if only they'd slap that spire back on and make it NYC's tallest...

When it had the spire attached and was one foot shorter than 1WTC, the roof height was significantly lower than it is now. Therefore, if they kept the current roof height and put the spire back on, it would be taller than 1WTC. If the diagrams are any indication, I'd estimate it to be somewhere around 1,850 feet.

Wishful thinking, I know.

Let's crowdfund the spire. I'll donate $100. In all seriousness, though, i wonder how much could realistically be raised through a mass crowdfunding initiative.

at 1550 or 1850 ft . . this disfigured mass,
without its spire, . . is for the worse, . .
America's tallest tower . .
with the spire, it makes a lot of sense . .

Is there going to be any facade restoration done to those buildings in the foreground?

This skyscraper when completed will make NYC proud again because it will be simply beautiful and dominating in it's sheer tallness.

Were New Yorkers dissatisfied with their veritable collection of skyscrapers?

I'm starting to think it might not be so bad to see this one cancelled.
