Senators have removed 1,500 seats from CTC to, in their words, "right size" the arena. Confirmed by Sens President Tom Anselmi this morning.

Melnyk also confirms roughly 25 fewer suites.

Interesting. I wonder how that will work? Do they just remove the top X number of rows from the rink and use only the remaining seating areas? Or do they just carve out rows randomly throughout the arena?

My guess would be removing some seats from rows where it's really tight, that's the only way it would make sense to me. They must be making some of the suites larger too, that's a big money item for buildings so most want as many suites as possible.

^ Yeah, CTC must have a lot of unsold suites if that's what they're doing.

Heaven forbid that they reduce the ticket prices a bit to fill those seats...

They removed the last few rows and covered them with Senators related branding.

Can't wait for the day when the Sens actually have an arena located in Ottawa.

I believe they did that last year. CTC used to have one of the highest capacities in the league until a few years ago. Now down to roughly 17,000.

15-20 minutes in light traffic but traffic is often heavy. It can sometimes take 2-3 times as long. Even more on some occasions.

Likely better for them in Ottawa to scale it down and create scarcity with tickets, the downside is that this downscale will be used to boost tickets if demand peaks again for Sens tickets. Ottawa is one of the three smallest markers in the league. Sometimes bigger isn't always better, a full building at 17k is better than a big barn with thousands of empty seats.

I find Ottawa as a market interesting. Ottawa is "small" when talking in the North America sense but it is a city with very high deposible incomes, strong employment and population base. Corporate scene is tiny there as it's a Govt town but this shouldn't stop national players from posting a flag there with partnerships and sponser deals with sports.

Lastly, crazy world in that when the new arena comes on board, CTC will be flattened quickly to build homes. Ontario in all urban parts is seeing scarcity of land leave no stone unturned - Glen Abbey tuned into homes and soon CTC.

Weeknights can be anywhere from 45 minutes-hour or more.

I will always stand by my assertion that attendance is awful because the arena is in the middle of nowhere. It's been beaten to death, but the city's largest employer cannot purchase or distribute tickets to games. Disposible income or not that's a big corporate restriction that not many other cities have to deal with.

Toronto (BMO Field), Montreal, Ottawa, Regina, Edmonton and Vancouver have applied to be Canadian host cities for the proposed 2026 WC bid.

Missed opportunity for Calgary to secure funding for a new stadium IMO.

Surely, this World Cup bid could have resulted in one new facility being built out of the 41 currently.

Perhaps they secure funding tied to the Winter Olympics?

If CalgaryNext is indeed dead, then I would have thought the World Cup would be the best opportunity for a new football stadium.

If we get the Winter Olympics, I can see arena funding, but additional stadium funding would likely be a stretch

Do you really think Calgary would get funding for a new stadium solely to accommodate 3 or 4 group-stage WC soccer games?

So much for my contention that Rogers Centre would make the best Toronto venue.
