No exact date yet, but based on the timelines that have been thrown around and the progress on the store over the winter it seems like it would be on track for September.

I would think this spring the new roads and parking lot will be finished and then paved and eventually landscaped in the summer.

Looks like according to IKEA they will have most hiring complete by June. That seems to suggest an opening timeline of maybe late August or September.

Was in DC today and there has been some progress on shaping the access road into the Ikea site. It has a sweeping turn to the right as you go uphill between two large piles of compacted rock fill. A bit grim to be honest.

I would like to say hi and tell you I'm happy to have joined this site. My opinion about gravel beside an off ramp is that Keith is being overly critical

Not sure what can be done about the moon landscape right now, but we'll see as summer approaches.

IKEA Columbus, Ohio (shown above) just set an opening date of June 7th. The store is virtually identical to IKEA Halifax.

IKEA Columbus had it's ground breaking May 25th, 2016, IKEA Halifax had it's ground breaking August 9th 2016.

It seems possible they could have IKEA Halifax open by the end of August.

You would think they would do a huge chunk of their business in September so that timeline makes sense.

They can spray paint the gravel blue and yellow for all it matters. They could build that Ikea on a big turd and we'd all still show up!

I just hope they have good signs to control the traffic coming from Moncton. Its easy to get lost in Halifax's highway system.

Not right there at DC necessarily (though I get confused there myself because I am unfamiliar with the street names and hate all the 4-way stops) - but in general, yes, our highway signage leading into and within Halifax and Dartmouth is atrocious, most of it out of the 1950s to match our road network. Following route numbers is at best a challenge, at worst impossible, and destination names are often confusing or nonexistent.

What I hate if coming towards Halifax there are no signs to indicate Darmouth Crossing, just says Truro and something else, nothing to indicate this is the way to go.... Even coming across the bridge, there is nothing to indicate how to get there from Halifax. The Casino was able to get signs posted years ago, why not DC!!!
