Rhodium stopped posting here and on other blogs suddenly this past summer and I don't know why. I hope everything is ok. I appreciated his/her updates and really miss them.

Anyone know what's going on?

These are great. I want to see more

Is the streetscape changing in Uptown or Southend? I know there's a lot happening.

I'm fine, thank you. Was just really busy over the summer with projects (understaffed...NC has a serious shortage of engrs).

Here are some updates...

Two Legacy Union - 17 fl

Quote:
The Charlotte-based developer filed a rezoning to allow a "cantilevered building design" for a portion of a proposed 17-story office building. If approved, the upper floors would extend out over a portion of the streetscape. The petition was filed for the currently L-shaped, 2.2-acre parcel at Stonewall, Tryon and Hill streets, though renderings and a site plan filed with the rezoning depict the proposed building at the hard corner of Hill and Tryon streets.

Spectrum and Invesco South End Mixed Use - 2 x 9 fl Office and 200 room hotel

Quote:
The South End development is going through rezoning now. It is expected to include two nine-story buildings with 440,000 square feet of office and 40,000 square feet of street-level retail and, separately, a 200-room boutique hotel that will be built above the project's parking deck as well as a large urban plaza, which McClure described as a "living room" for South End. Public art will also be part of the site.

Beacon Partners South End Mixed Use - 8 fl and hotel

Quote:
The intersection of South Tryon Street and West Boulevard in Wilmore, and the current home of Sauceman's, will soon be redeveloped with a mixed-use project.

Charlotte developer Beacon Partners said early Wednesday that it will develop an eight-story, 130,000-square-foot office building with 10,000 square feet of retail on the first floor in addition to multifamily units, potentially a boutique hotel and a large outdoor plaza connecting West Boulevard to the future Wilmore Centennial Park.

Beacon says it expects to break ground on the project, Common Square, in the spring.

JW Marriott Hotel - 21 fl at Tryon Place

Quote:
The hotel will include 381 rooms and amenities, including 22,000 square feet of meeting and event space. JW Marriott Charlotte is expected to deliver in 2021, the same year as Ally Charlotte Center.

Atrium Health Medical Office - Midtown

Quote:
Atrium Health is extending its campus in midtown Charlotte with a $200 million investment in two medical office buildings. It's the next phase of Pappas Properties' $250 million mixed-use development at its Kenilworth Avenue site.

The project involves the construction of about 280,000 square feet of medical outpatient space over the next two years for Charlotte-based Atrium's adult specialty centers, including Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute, neurology and digestive health. Pappas will also develop a parking structure and two levels of subterranean parking for the medical office space and future phases of the project.

Portman South End Project - no renderings yet

Quote:
A high-profile Atlanta developer will do its next Queen City office project in South End.

2151 Hawkins LLC, affiliated with Portman Holdings, this week purchased a 28,329-square-foot building at 2151 Hawkins St., between Tremont Avenue and Rampart Street, for $12.7 million, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records. There, Portman will develop a mixed-use project that could contain up to 260,000 square feet of office space and up to 20,000 square feet of retail space, said Travis Garland, director of leasing at Portman.

Noticeable changes are along South Tryon section of uptown to South End...drastic changes are mostly in South End.

Here's a few pictures I took with my iphone. I know they aren't building specific and I probably couldn't tell the buildings apart except for a few of them but I thought I'd post them. I'll be heading back down there in a few weeks so if y'all want I can get better pics.

Depends how you define premier. It lost claim to being the second largest city in terms of financial assets to SF with the spin off of BoA's US Trust's into First Republic (HQ'd in SF) and the acquisition of Wachovia by SF-based Wells Fargo. The sheer concentration of Fortune 500 companies in Atlanta guarantees a much greater need for high level finance and banking services in that city. And Miami is still a huge international finance center.

At last check, Charlotte regained second place and just landed a Fortune 100 company in Honeywell.

That wouldn't surprise. The margin was only a few hundred million. Wells Fargo has been on an asset-restriction due to its banking services failures. Atlanta still has 11 more Fortune 500 companies than Charlotte. It just added Norfolk-Southern. So the concentration of corporate banking services remains with Atlanta. That is to take nothing away from Charlotte. It's a great corporate city.

The most anticipated 2019 project in the QC will likely be the 39-story Duke Energy II Tower. Renderings to be released first quarter. Some people are disappointed that it is not going to be the new tallest, but it is not the end of the world

Press release from DE https://news.duke-energy.com/release...ment-to-uptown
