This RMN article includes a nugget about the new tower.

Betting on a bright future in Black Hawk, the Ameristar next week is putting the final beam into place on a new 33-story, $240 million luxury hotel.
I might need to go check it out...never been up there.

Its pretty cool, went up there a couple weeks ago and saw it...no pics unfortunately. The best is driving into Blackhawk on HWY 6, you cant see it at all until you are basically at the cross street its located on because its hidden behind the mountains....and then all of a sudden, bam, there it is.

I think when the economy picks up Blackhawk and Central City even Cripple Creek will become much more attractive, at least they are thinking ahead and getting things prepaired for when it does improve...

what an absolute and utter tragedy. Putting that thing in what appears to be a picturesque little mountain town is absurd.

It's like pooping all over a faberge egg.

If you went back in this thread, you'd know that you're not the first one to say that. The key word in your sentence is appears. Trust me, it's not a tragedy. It fits there just fine. It is, after all, a sleazy gambling town in the foothills of the Rockies. This isn't Telluride or Breckenridge we're talking about.

Let the "pooping" continue!

hey, I added that qualifier "appears" for a reason. I've never been there, and for all I know it could be a desicrated mining town.

and BTW, I think I'm just jealous they aren't building 33 story hotels in downtown phoenix. Those bitches.

Hell, this would have been a beauty in downtown Denver. This is the tallest building in Colorado outside of Denver metro. If I lived in the Springs, Pueblo, or even Grand Junction, I would be pissed that a tiny mountain town was building something taller than anything in those cities.

Especially Pueblo.

Damn, that thing's a freaking BEAST! Amazing given the fact it's quite literally been built into the mountainside!

I know it sounds like it would be aweful to put a building like that up in a little valley town, but it really looks pretty good for the location its in. And yeah, I think others are just jealous they are not getting 33 story buildings, lol. Maybe I will take a little drive up there this weekend and grab some pictures.

July 1, $100 limits, plus craps and roulette tables, and, oh, 24 hour operations.

Fuck. Yes.

I just kinda wish you could smoke in the casinos, but, I'll take the vegas table games and higher limits for now

I too agree it's unfortunate such a structure is being built - I found the development to be an eyesore when I visited Black Hawk / Central City. Though I admit I find the way the gambling industry has sucked all business in Central City & Cripple Creek to be a shame.

Yes, I know gambling was legalized in these towns for a reason due to declining sales. But it's a shame that there is nothing else to do in those towns but the casinos. I would like to visit more often with my family, but if you don't like to gamble then you're out of luck.

Doesn't look like the elevator shaft corresponds to 33 floors...more like about 28.

I counted 28 stories already constructed, plus room for 5 more = 33 stories.

Man. I really like the way Blackhawk looks. I do think that they need to diversify their recreational offerings though. I go up on occasion and its fun but I could really picture some additions i.e. An "Antique district", An indoor water park?, A "western themed" renaissance fair type thing, and strip clubs....lots and lots of strip clubs

^ LOL good call on the Strip Clubs, then were only a small step away from having our own "mini Vegas" up in the mountains and no need to take a flight to vegas...
