^^^ Yes there is a chance - at the bottom of the hole are a bunch of rock-socketed caissons, there are another bunch (with sleepers) around the hole. a 70'+ wall surrounds the entire site with dozens of smaller caissons installed.

I understand "sunk cost" but the existence of heavy foundations would seem to represent a significant "discount" on any new project, the closer to the original the greater the discount.

I'll just say if he pulled off the lawsuit and ended up building the spire the way he originally intended, his name would go down in history as one stubborn, tough sob.

Well, the Irish certainly are a resolute, unyielding tribe

I have a lot of respect for hardy people. I'm rooting for him, ridiculously long shot as it may be.

Imagine if the Spire did start up again and there was someone visiting chicago for the first time since 08'. It would be like a ryugyong hotel mind fuck. "Wait, wasnt this under construction 10 years ago and it hasnt changed a bit?"

Does Renelle have no core? It looks to me like you can see all the way through the building no matter the angle.

Not in the traditional sense. A typical highrise has a concrete core that contains services, stairs, elevators. That core also takes structural loads.

Renelle has two stairs and two elevators, but they’re not organized into a neat core and they won’t take structural loads. Right now there’s just a couple of voids in each floorplate for the stairs, elevators and mechanical chase.

Just down the street they were using patterned forms to mimic this texture - would be cool if they leave it raw.
