Two for one shot, with demo and excavation for the Spiral in the background, 50 Hudson in the foreground...

It'll be closer to 50 Hudson (thank god for the Hudson Blvd & Park), but they are all part of the group that make up the so called "four corners" towers. Very large towers. Not even New York has had as many supertall towers side by side. The Hudson Yards will be something new for us in that sense.

I feel like this design is what Ingles attempted to create with 2WTC.

I would go as far as to say that add 300 feet and this should've been the design for 2 WTC.

Bjarke at least doesn't build boring boxes that belong to the 60's modernist movement. He's moving NY beyond that. He's of the future, while most NY developers and architects live in the past. The Spiral is probably going to be the most admired building on the HY by the majority of common laypeople as its novel and has visual interest on its stem.

The areas where the setbacks and planted areas are follow a twisty path that resembles a spiral.

Tishman Speyer has all the air rights needed for Spiral after final deal
Developer spent $157 million on additional 670k square feet of buildable space

By Will Parker
October 02, 2017

Quote:
As it continues putting together the pieces to make its $3.2 billion Spiral tower a reality, Tishman Speyer bought 669,000 square feet of development rights from the Hudson Yards Infrastructure Corporation and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, records filed with the city Monday show.

The developer paid $157 million for the rights, or $235 a foot, that it will apply to its 65-story office development at 509 West 34th Street, with a total square footage of more than 2.2 million. The rights were transferred from lots around the Eastern Rail Yards.

The Rob Speyer-led firm has now spent $265 million to acquire more than 1.23 million square feet of air rights for the 1,005-foot-tall development, first picking up 235,000 square feet from the Imperatore family in 2015 and then grabbing more rights from the city and state last year.

When contacted a spokesperson for Tishman said that the deal was the last air rights acquisition needed to develop the tower.

The company filed construction plans for the Bjarke Ingels-designed tower a year ago.

In August, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer announced it would sign an 800,000-square-foot lease next year, making it the future building’s anchor tenant.

Je vous en prie, but no, this is a simple stacked boxes project with a cute little ring of greenery around it resembling a spiral. Bjarke did a good job with what he had to work with. Gotta hand it to the man, he does know how to design "out of the box" and he doesn't let the past weigh him down.

Just as a recap: Not sure if it was emphasized but its pretty much a wrap on this tower. Demo needs to finish, and this beast will rise!

^ Anyone ever just walked up to a site like that and asked to buy the bricks or other salvageable materials?
