SSP exclusive!

Luz Condos, 114 units in the new Triangle area of Cotes-des-Neiges (Rouge, Vue, Reve, etc). There is a little "sneak peak" capture of part of the building on the website. The architecture does not look horrible, but its hard to tell.

No floor total is mentioned, but 114 units would have to be more than 10 stories tall, and could even be close to 20...

The cladding on the GM is great! Thanks for the updates!

As for the new scoop, I seriously doubt anything above 12 floors.

RE : Concordia GM building

I don't work in the industry, but I do like to keep tabs on what's going on. I know a couple of people in commercial real estate, but I also read the real estate section of newspapers and follow a few websites such as http://guidehabitation.ca that frequently post new projects.

RenderPornStar of the Week

District Griffin 2 may not be "loud" architecture but compared to many projects across Canada it is still good architecture--I especially love the play between the dark and light brick and the placement of the windows--and thus it's my latest RenderPornStar*!

"Merry Griffin" is a seasonal play on Mary Griffin--Griffintown's namesake landowner.

What do you folks think about this project? (I used to live nearby and while I miss the grittiness of the area it is nice to see it more lively.)

Makes you think, what would Montreal be like IF our train companies had bothered building a chateau hotel like those of Vancouver, Victoria, Banff, Toronto, Ottawa or Quebec!

Instead we got this:

Is this show actually shot in Montreal or is the backdrop only a coincidence?

What the hell? Where did you find this? This can't be from Montreal. My guess is that they took a random backdrop, and it just happened to be one of Montreal. Strange. And fun!

Of all the skylines in the world they chose ours? Weird. Maybe they have a different backdrop every show.

I briefly flipped to the Spanish-language TeleLatino earlier (its on free preview from Videotron) and I caught an ad for this show and noticed the familiar skyline. It made me curious so I youtubed it. (especially since the channel had a lot of ads in Spanish for Montreal businesses)

I think the show is either from Chile or the US but I'm not sure which.

I like the sound of a large commercial/residential project on that block of René-Lévesque.

Hotel Mount Stephen?
December 22, 2011. 3:52 pm • Section: Real Deal
ALLISON LAMPERT, The Gazette

The elaborate mahogany doors of Montreal’s historic Mount Stephen Club are to close on Dec. 23, as they do each year during the holiday season.

The big question, is what will happen to the 85-year-old former home of Lord Mount Stephen – the Scottish-born founding president of the Canadian Pacific Railway – in 2012? For owners, the privately-held Tidan Group, the message is clear: the Mount Stephen Club will shut indefinitely.

Long term, however, the plan isn’t clear.

Members of the Confédération des syndicats nationaux, which represents the club’s 70 workers, have denounced the closing as union-busting. They asked an administrative tribunal this week to force Tidan to re-open the club next month, and are awaiting a decision by January 5.

Whatever the tribunal judge decides, new possible uses for the Victorian building with the 24-karat gold doorknobs are already being floated.

Peter Morentzos, the brain behind the Queue de Cheval, MBCo (Montreal Bread Company), Moe’s and Trinity, says he’d consider the Mount Stephen Club as a possible new location for the high end Q steakhouse.

At the restaurant’s recent “Food Porn” event – a flamboyant soirée that rewards its supporters – Morentzos told me there is a “70 per cent chance” the Queue de Cheval might have to switch locations to make room for a large residential and commercial project by businessman James Essaris on René Levésque Blvd. between de la Montagne and Drummond Sts.

The Mount Stephen Club is one possibility, but unlikely given what I hear is the Tidan Group’s real interest in the site. While the structure of the historic building cannot be changed, real estate sources tell me the Tidans are considering plans to incorporate the building into a hotel, using the parking lot in the back of the site.

How such a project would work isn’t clear. The Ville Marie borough has received preliminary plans for the future usage of the Mount Stephen Club site, but those haven’t been made public.

A spokesperson for Tidan was on vacation and not available to comment.
