The issue raised is whether the City would treat residential different from office or hotel use. There are a number of office towers close to each other (i.e. on Dunsmuir) and a few hotel towers close to each other (Coast Hotel being the most recent).

The Dept of Justice office tower on Melville is right next to the Orca Place condo. That site was originally slated to be a hotel, but was changed to an office tower.

The Telus condo will also back onto the old William Farrell Building (although that's largely a blank wall).

I think Jameson / Credit Suisse would be the tallest example of such close proximity.

I think the expectation of adjacent development is exactly why the city didn't push for more interesting facades on the south and east faces of the Jameson. I was seriously questioning it at the time but perhaps they do know what they are doing over at City Hall.

Good point. Just going from what an architect (not involved in the project) told me...

Doh! That's right.
Why is it that I think "hotel" and not "condos" wrt Georgia?

Shit, this one is sharp. Any idea of the height in meters? 130-140ish? And this is a lot of new office space coming down the tube. What are we at now? 2 million+ slated for 2015?

Around 1.7M, unless I'm missing something significant:

Credit Suisse - 400K
745 Thurlow - 400K
1021 West Hastings - 270K
Telus Garden - 500K
Burrard Gateway commercial - 100K

Will be well over 2 million if the Rogers Arena west tower (~190K) and the proposal across the street from Waterfront station are for real...

Funny the height in meters has not been precisely stated, but it would seem to me that the maximum would be 130 m. Probably more like 120m for the building proper, given that the metal grill thing on top adds height, but no real substance (except may in the design aspect).
But hey, I like this upcoming building, too, especially as (so it is reported) that they're going to restore the old stock exchange building inside, too, and apparently not keep just the façade.

This one will lend more vitality and density to that area for sure. Alas .... if only it were a few floors taller, like 36 or 37 ... (where have we heard that refrain before? hmm)

I've updated the height on this proposal, I'm going with the height of the top mech floor, but a case could be made for the top of the screen. The heights are as follows.

136.9M to the top of the mast.
132.3M to the top of the screen
117.3M is the viewcone limit
115.7M top of Mech Penthouse
111.1M top of Penthouse.

Here are the documents

The proposal is slightly unusual in that it is a marketing the need for itself in the proposal itself. Interesting tactic.

Almost as high as Jameson with I beleive was ~24.0 and should come in right around the same as Vancouver's Turn if ever built.

Great shots, thanks.

Looks like the Pender facade is slightly skewed compared to the heritage building and street grid.

I just realized that a sushi place (Miyako) I like will be demolished.
There looks to be enough space on the rest of the block (Pender & Hornby) for another tower.

But Jameson House and The Exchange don't leave much breathing room for redevelopment of the Hastings & Howe corner site.

No doubt eh?
Now that I can see all the angles, personally, I'm as excited about this one as I was Jameson.
