Oh man, sad to see that building go, not because it was of any real value, just had some old memories there. Though not too excited about Ankrom Moisan, but maybe they will surprise me.

I thought this said NE Glisan for a second and was utterly shocked. I agree that it'll be nice to see this strip mall go.

Nice! I work on 13th and Glisan and 14 floors is going to be quite a bit taller than anything in the immediate 2-3 block radius.

That is a good point, this will definitely stand out in that area.

More awesome development news for Portland. A strip mall falls in the Pearl and another rises on MLK. One step forward...

Ankrom Moisan Architects have requested Design Advice for 1430 NW Glisan St:

Quote:
Type III Design Review for the construction of a 270,000 sq. ft., 15-story residential tower, with approx. 250 units. 5,500 sf of ground floor Retail. A below-grade parking structure will provide 200 spaces. The applicant intends to transfer FAR potential from the 4,300 sq. ft. lot directly north of the site. Bonus FAR for the residential development will also be utilized.

While I don't think it's terrible, the design looks very early 2000's and doesn't move the Pearl forward at all. Some neighborhood gateway

Also, what is with the random surface lot they're building across the street from the "tower"?

It looks like they're just sprucing up the existing parking lot, although I don't know why...

I agree. I hope that they are not using FAR from the parking lot in order to get their height. That would permanently lock in a really unfortunate condition.

They are. The improvements the parking lot were triggered by the 1440 Hoyt development.

Definitely mediocre but a really nice spot for 15 stories. Too bad Skylab didn't get the job...er, wait... Hopefully the design will be improved by DR.

The top seems too disconnected from the rest of the tower, like it was just plunked down randomly. Even so, it's not bad, just needs more refinement.

Not to be contrarian but I like the overall look of the building. I think the style blends well with the other buildings in the area and the rooftop gathering place is a tremendous sales point. I bet the views will be spectacular - what a nice place to spend a spring afternoon or have a summer barbecue.
