Geothermal updates, extending lines from downtown to campus. Boise has a rare resource and it is good to see the city extending this to other areas of downtown.

Boise State Geothermal Project Underway http://www.cityofboise.org/Departmen...page66895.aspx

Construction crews are installing the pipeline to connect Boise State to the City of Boise’s historic geothermal heating system. The entire first phase of the project is expected to be completed by January.

Additional traffic alerts/advisories will be issued as the project heads toward downtown along Capitol Boulevard and eventually across the Boise River.

The Morrison Center, the Multi Purpose Class Room, the Interactive Learning Center and the Math and Geosciences Building are connecting as part of the first phase. The Administration Building, Student Union Building and the Center for Environmental Sciences and Economics are among the buildings that will connect when phase two begins next summer. When completed, approximately 625,000 square feet of building space will be heated from geothermal energy.

Dona Larsen Park should begin construction this month, which will be the first phase in expanding Bronco Stadium to 50,000+ seats.

I noticed work taking place at that site today, there is going to be a lot of activity in that area with Whole Foods also breaking ground this week.

On another note, I am really liking COBE, it is classy, beautiful, and fits in well with the Boulevard. I'm so glad they didn't decide on a tacky industrial glass and tube look which would look dated in 10 years. I have some updated photos I will upload to the Bucket and post soon.

Have you also learned that secret from the river; that there is no such thing as time? That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains.-Hermann Hesse

I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the design....I really like Utah's new business building. Here's a pic from UofU's thread

Looks nice but kind of reminds me of a toned down design of Bronco Stadium, the side of the Stueckle Sky Center, but this is just my eyes speaking for myself.

Yeah, it does look nice, but I don't think that would fit with the surrounding architecture in Boise and Boise State. It compliments the mountains in Utah nicely, but I just think that kind of a design would look a tad out of place here.

^^^ I think a variation of that would have looked great, and would have worked even better being that it does resemble the Stueckle Sky Center. I don't think the COBE building being built in Boise really works for the site. For one, it is a nearly symmetrical building that was offset on the site, so it just looks crooked. That is not a building design well suited for a corner lot at all. The entrance should have been oriented to the intersection of Capital and University, with the wings running down each street. The way it is now is just awkward in my opinion. The second problem I feel is that the facade only matches that of the multi-purpose building, with a lot of tan stucco, rather than the rest of the buildings on campus, which are almost all strictly brick and glass.

Study: More Than Half Of Women Are Attracted To... Other Women

Admiring another woman’s looks could have an underlying meaning, because according to recent research, 60 per cent of heterosexual women find other women sexually attractive.

The latest findings from the Boise State University, discovered that over half of the 484 straight women questioned, had been attracted to another female at some point in their lives – with a further 45 per cent admitting to kissing a woman and 50 per cent confessing to enjoying fantasies about other ladies

It sure is a disappointment! Thankfully though, the damage was only minimal.

State approves new doctoral program at Boise State
By Cynthia Sewell Idaho Statesman
Published: 12/12/11

The Idaho State Board of Education last week approved a new doctoral program in materials science and engineering at Boise State.

Materials science involves the study of advanced materials, including metals and their composites, polymers and bio-materials. The field is multidisciplinary in nature, combining elements of physics, chemistry, biology and engineering.

“This new Ph.D. program signals Boise State’s intent to play a major role in the creation of materials that will encourage the advancement of science and technology and have a significant economic impact on Idaho and beyond,” said Boise State President Bob Kustra in a news release. “This department has been on the rise with nationally and internationally recognized faculty and research, particularly in the areas of novel materials, biological sciences and nanotechnology.”

This is the seventh doctoral program at Boise State. The other programs include biomolecular sciences, geosciences, geophysics, electrical and computer engineering, educational technology, and education curriculum and instruction.
