I walked up 12th last week and noticed signs and fencing on the old family court building- it appears that renovation is being handled separately from the new structure. Clemens Construction (same CM that is working on 1100 chestnut) has that part of the job it seems. There really arent any visible signs of work from the exterior, but perhaps they are doing demo inside.

There is nothing left on the 11th street side at this point.

I saw that today! Wow!

What I love most about this project is it makes sense. It's not a modern interpretation of the Gallery, it's not Times Square. I know similar projects exist elsewhere, but the developers clearly looked at what Market East's demographics were demanding, and it looks like they're going to deliver it.

I'm just not looking forward to my skyrocketing rent.

In looks like the kind of complex you see in Shanghai or Tokyo.

its the proper way to use such a HUGE urban parcel, this is much better than a block long mega building that would take away from the pedestrian oriented experience of center city.

Bingo! It makes you wonder how a similarly scaled project would be received on Broad and Washington. You know that neighbors are going to be lining up against any sort of massive high rise. East Market still involves a high rise, but it's broken up and blends in better with the street. Then again, NIMBYs just hate everything.

some guys on a lift were knocking out glass and doing some other sensitive demo on the upper areas of the market street facade today. I guess prepping the wall for mechanical demolition.

The building across from this site on 11th st is in sad shape. I believe I read it was sold recently and there are plans to convert it to loft office space- cant come soon enough. First floor is full of vacancies and upper floors look like crap.

I can't believe this is really coming down. I am so happy about it.

Brickstone bought the old Sounds of Market across 11th.

I'm sure they'll do a great rehab.

That's great news. I've always liked that building, good to hear there's plans to bring it back to life.

I know it's been talked about before but what's the project that is located right across chestnut from this project on the south side of the 1100 block of chestnut? I remember being really excited about it happening and then when it became apparent East Market was going to move forward they sort of stole the show.
