Red face SLC: Official 222 S Main Construction thread

Considering this is the first 20+ story tower to break ground in downtown SLC in nearly a decade, I think it is only fitting that it has its own thread status!

Scheduled completion ~2009

...and if its ok to "borrow" ...Comrade's photos, it appears this baby is really gonna happen!

Site Preparation!

I remember first reading about this tower a decade ago while I was folding my news papers. It once was going to have 20 stories of office and at least 8 stories of housing units on top, with a total of 28+ floors.

While we have had 10 years of set backs and disapointments this is finally getting started. We should all be glad that this is being built and not like boise place in Boise.

It is amazing how long this building has taken, and yet still it is actually going to happen. I think it will be a beautiful addition to Main Street. I like its clean, elegant and timeless style. Yes,it won't be the most exciting tower being built downtown, given what is happening now and in the near future. However, it is definately worthy of a celebration. We desperately needed to get this type of infill along that section of Main.

Wasatch, its good to see that you started this new thread. I was thinking that this size project will need its own. I am so glad to see that they have begun the site preparation. Main Street is going to be a fun place to watch what's going on.

I have people in my office tell me how they hate to go downtown with all of the construction going on. I tell them that its all the more reason to go downtown, to watch the changes take place.

Five years ago back in 2002 was when I first learned of this project. Back then it was going to be 22-stories tall. This project has had a lot of setbacks and five years for me was along wait. But the wait was worth it.

Wasatch_One is right about the Grand America Hotel being Salt Lake's last highrise building to get built. That was back in 2001. So to have a new Office tower is long pass due.

Let's bring out the crane.

haha, they think there is a lot of construction going on in SLC?! HA! I was in Miami about a year ago, and they aint seen NOTHIN compared to Miami!

Im not kidding you, and im sure its still the same there now, but there were probably 25, 10+ story buildings under construction just in the 1 sq mile area downtown! ...it was seriously urban nerd heaven!

Why Do We Need A Thread For This?!

This Is Like Forum Sprawl!

Let's Consolidate The News About Salt Lake City To The Official Salt Lake City Development News Thread.

Wow... I'm quite impressed! I practically gave up reading about this tower quite a while ago, mistaking it for dead.

Nah! I actually think the SLC development thread is like sprawl and very unorganized...

For example, I didnt even realize that all these new renderings on CCC came out until I started seeing them in other cities threads...

And I dont understand why youre all fired up about a new thread, there are threads out there that dont even get one reply, where as this one will receive plenty of traffice to keep it alive.

And look, someone from another metro already poked their head in here and posted something about the project... they probably never would have realized that ground is being broken on it next week if we didnt have this thread.

CARRY ON MY URBAN NERDS!!!

Congrats SLC, I have to agree with CementGlow on this one, I too thought we would never hear about this tower again. So with City Center? and now this, that is pretty decent IMO can't really complain about 3-5 towers in the 20-30 story range all going up around the same time IMO... Coolness!

I'm all for 222 having its own thread. I've been waiting 5 long years for this to building to begin construction, and I look forward to follow the many updates as it gets built.

This building definately represents a kind-of-breakthrough on Main. If it were Utah-One or Wells Fargo, we would dedicate a thread. There should definately be no hard feelings about this Tower having its own thread.

I think the 222 South Main project should have it's own thread because...

1. This project has been in the planning stage for YEARS and it had alot of setback and delays. And for awhile most of us were starting to think that this tower would never get built, But now it's finally getting underway.

and...

2. Salt Lake City hasn't had a new skyscraper since "Wells Fargo Center" that was built in 1998. ( Almost 10 years ago. )

This project is a big deal. Can't wait till the 28th

It was on the "Boise Tower approved at 460' thread"... Viperlord posted the new 32 story CCC tower rendering there... and I was all...

WHAT THE?!

When was this released? haha.... I have never felt so uninformed about SLC development in MY LIFE!!!

So I did a little research and found about 4 pages of discussion that I missed out on!

And of course, the Boiseans brushed it off because theyre angry their Boise Tower is doomed! haha
