I believe this building was designed as a mini preview to 1WTC, especially when looking from the west.

In terms of what was to come (a taller building) then YES. But in terms of design NO. Both buildings are completely different in design, but are both Art Deco and both BEAUTIFUL.

That's what I meant, the same is said about the BOA Tower and 1WTC. They both have different designs, however they both are post-modern all glass facades and are beautiful as well...

So I agree with two thirds of your statement. But all three buildings ESB, BOA, and Chrysler are beautiful in the end.

^ MUCH lower than that in 10 years. But CURRENTLY NYC has the 6th tallest skyline in the world, when in 2000 NYC has the TALLEST.

1. One World Trade Center, 1787ft (544,7m), Under Construction
2. 432 Park Avenue, 1420ft (432,8m), Site Preparation (height not final; min: 1380ft / max: 1700ft)
3. Two World Trade Center, 1349ft (411,2m), Under Construction
4. Hudson Yards North Tower, 1292ft (393,8m), Approved
5. Empire State Building, 1250ft (381m), Completed [1,454ft (443,2m) when counting the spire]
6. 15 Penn PLaza, 1216ft (370,6m), Approved
7. One Manhattan West, 1216ft (370,6m), Approved
8. 225 West 57th Street, 1200ft+ (365,8m+), Proposed
9. Bank of America Tower, 1200ft (365,8m), Completed

And if 3WTC maintains its original height (1240ft), BofA will even be pushed back to the 10th position. Man, times are changing so fast...

EDIT: how do you define "tallest skyline"? top 10 or top 20 tallest? 'Cause if we go by 700ft+, than NY probably takes the cake...

^^ I forgot about that site... anyway they just take the top 10 tallest into consideration:

Three separate scores are compiled for each city: The sum of the heights of its ten tallest buildings up to the roof (spire not counted); the sum of the heights of its ten tallest buildings and towers, including the spires; and, the sum of the heights of its ten tallest towers and buildings (up to roof only). We do not consider the number of stories since they are not a good indicator of a building's actual height. The scores are added together and then divided by three.The result of this is to give more weight to actual floor space (100% value) than to spires (33% value) that are often little more than needles in the air, or towers that also do not occupy much space in the air (67% value).

In short, this method sucks.

Towers over 700 feet completed:
Dubai: 46
NY: 36
HK: 32
SH: 29
CHI: 19
