Harry, these are stud rails, not embed plates. Similar look, different function. These strengthen the area around the column, nothing will be welded to these. If you look closely, they're sitting on plastic slab spacers. The bottom strip of steel will be covered with concrete.

This site is just nonstop concrete pouring right now. Whoever is handling the logistics for this thing is knocking it out of the park. In one week they have poured

Feb 24th: east end of the site
Feb 27th: half of upper wacker dr.
March 1st: Huge 2nd mat pour
March 2nd: start of 1st floor around western core.

Anyone have easy access to a number for the volume of cement that will poured in total for these slabs?

I agree. This is moving along smoothly. Too smoothly!

It's always good when projects commence with finesse and elegance. Makes the whole construction process from a documentation aspect seem like nice thriller, with never ending excitement, and limited commercial breaks (delays).

So does the city chip in for the Wacker extension since its city property and improvement or is it entirely responsibity of Vista.

Wanda Vista developers see high-end demand; $8.6M penthouse under contract

Gail Marks JarvisContact Reporter
Chicago Tribune

March 2, 2017

Quote:
As the 94-story, ultra high-end Wanda Vista Tower hotel and condominium complex rises from its massive foundation near Chicago's lakeshore, the developer says about a third of the residential units are under contract with buyers.

That includes six of the building's 21 penthouses priced in the $8 million to $10 million range, said Sean Linnane, executive vice president of Magellan Development Group, which is developing the building along with China's Dalian Wanda Group.

Urban Real Estate recently put a 5,734-square foot, full-floor penthouse under contract for $8.6 million.

That 75th-floor penthouse, like the others in the tower, occupies a full floor, and offers a panoramic 360-degree view of the city.

Quote:
Linnane said the building is slightly ahead of where the developer expected it to be in terms of the number of units under contract, and will likely secure a construction loan in the next 45 to 60 days.

^ Glazing samples? Pictures were taken with my cell phone, so I wasn't able to zoom in very well.

^Definitely. Phenomenal update, by the way, Solar! Way to capture the trailers. I hadn't given it a thought, but a project of this size is going to have what looks to be a tiny village of PMs. Where were the trailers set up for Trump Tower?

Now we can see how the floorplates and glazing will be staggered from expanding to shrinking, in one small step per floor. The portion on the right is expanding with height, while the one on the left is shrinking. I like how one segment zigs while the other zags. Or something to that effect. Clever, and this will look stunning from a distance, lots of complexity!

Yesterday the Tribune reported:

About 1/3 under contract
6 of 21 uber luxury units are under contract, including an $8.6 million penthouse
Many of the buyers are believed to be foreign, as predicted
Construction financing is expected to close in 45 to 60 days

Keep a close eye on this, guys. If Vista is a success we may see a lot more Chinese money "parked" locally, and perhaps many more high profile condo proposals

1/3 under contract is pretty decent for still being 3 years away from delivery. The sales center has been open for less than a year.

The facade looks promising as well.. all things are looking up for this project.

Window washing should be interesting.
