Wow, I wish Pittsburgh could build such nice looking mid rises, everything here that's new is clad with tin siding that looks like utter garbage.

At first glance I wouldn't even think that building is new. It looks straight out of 1925.

Smile NEW YORK | 460 Main Street (Riverwalk 8) | FT | 21 FLOORS

Project: 460 Main Street (Riverwalk 8); Roosevelt Island

Quote:
Construction will soon begin on Riverwalk 8, the eighth building within Roosevelt Island’s Riverwalk rental complex. With groundbreaking imminent, YIMBY has the exclusive reveal for the first renderings of the project.

Eventually, the complex will include nine individual buildings.

Designed by Handel Architects, Riverwalk 8 at 460 Main Street will top-out at 21 stories, and contain 341 apartments. No parking structure will be included in this latest phase of development.

The entire complex arrives as a joint venture between The Related Companies and Hudson Companies who most recently wrapped up construction of Riverwalk 7 at 480 Main Street. The 21-story, 200,000-square foot rental tower was also designed by Handel Architects and included 266 rental units.

Project Update: 292 Fifth Avenue (topped out)

Extra Info:

Quote:
A new, mixed-use hotel tower has topped-out just south of Koreatown, in Manhattan, at 292 Fifth Avenue. From developer Sam Chang, the property is his second Midtown hotel currently approaching its completion date.

Lower levels of the building will house 150 short-stay guestrooms that average about 325 square feet apiece. While the hotel tenant has not yet been confirmed, some reports claim the property will debut as a Le Meridien hotel following closure of the brand’s Midtown property in January 2018.

Hotel rooms will most likely be positioned on the second through 16th floors. Above, a collection of 16 residences will occupy the upper levels of the building. Private meeting rooms and an outdoor terrace separate the hotel and residential components at the 17th floor.

According to Gene Kaufman, the architect of record for 292 Fifth Avenue, the hotel is expected to debut in 2019 as a four-and-a-half star property.

Project: 323 East 79th Street

Quote:
New construction permits have been filed for a 17-story residential project at 323 East 79th Street, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The site is seven blocks north of the 72nd Street subway station, and seven blocks south of the 86th Street subway station, both serviced by the Q train. Spruce Capital Partners is listed as behind the applications. The firm is also responsible for the condo development at 151 78th Street in the same neighborhood, which features 14 full-floor units and three penthouses.

The 214-foot tall development at 323 East 79th Street will yield 35,045 square feet, with 31,219 square feet dedicated to residential use. Interiors will house 15 apartments, most likely condominiums, as some units will take up a full floor or two, averaging over 2,000 square feet each. The concrete-based structure will also have a rear yard 30 feet long.

Jeremy Singer of Woods Bagot Architects will be responsible for the design.

Did they buy the air rights to the corner building it is hugging? The question being, are we stuck with that mediocre corner structure?

The corner building is staying. This is NY. We can have a beautiful development, and right next to it, a crumbling 5 story structure that looks like poop.

In time due, I think its prime land for a slender. It'll be developed in time due. My inclination is a mid rise.

Smile NEW YORK | 186 Remsen Street (Renovation + Expansion) | 14 FLOORS

Project: 186 Remsen Street (Renovation + Expansion)

Quote:
Up Ventures LLC has revealed new renderings in updated proposals to fully renovate and expand Remsen Manor, in Downtown Brooklyn. Located at 186 Remsen Street, the existing structure is one of the oldest buildings within the boundaries of the Borough Hall Skyscraper Historic District.

Designed by HOK in association with HQ Architects and JHPA, permit applications include plans for an eight-story vertical expansion that would elevate the total height of the structure to 14 stories.

Alterations to the facade of the existing structure would include refurbished masonry and terra cotta, new windows, and balconies at the fourth level. Above the building’s seventh floor, developers have also proposed a new crowning elevation with copper cladding, brick chimneys, and a terra cotta pediment.

Smile NEW YORK | 53 Huron Street | FT | 14 FLOORS

Project: 53 Huron Street

Quote:
Quadrum Global plans to add a 173-unit residential building to the Brooklyn waterfront.

The 14-story building would be located in Greenpoint at 53 Huron Street, also known as 161 West Street, according to plans pre-filed with the Department of Buildings on Monday. The project would span 178,000 square feet.

Quadrum Global, a private equity firm based in London, bought the site in 2014 for $45.5 million from a group of owners led by Brooklyn-based investor Miriam Chan. Chan’s group had purchased the site in 2004 for $13 million.

Question - is there a section of this site that specifically focuses on developments in the NYC suburbs (other than the Jersey City thread)? I know in the Philly P&C page we have a "metro" thread for suburban stuff, but I haven't come across anything for NYC. I'd definitely be interested in following that. There is a ton of development in the suburbs and plenty of additional users who would post about it, I'm sure.
