Wasn't that impressed with Berlin...still carries alot of the scars from WWII and was a little depressing to me. Now Munich, great city, public trans that Chicagoans like myself(transplanted in Germany) envy, great public parks. Hope you enjoy your stay.

However, a spokeswoman for Dublin-based development company Shelbourne Development Group Inc. says construction on the tower, originally pegged at a $1.2 billion cost of development, has been stopped until the economy improves. A spokeswoman says the building will continue to rise once financial markets recover, and the target date for completion and occupancy remains 2012, as originally planned.

"We are slowing the construction pace down to match the economy.
Seems a little shaky, considering the financial markets still might have more bleeding to do, but at least investors are still confident.

So i took the chance to visit the John Hancock skydeck an see the sunset in an amazing way. This morning i walked to see the Elysian in person and it didnt look as bad as many of you said it would. Now i am in an internet cafe to keep you up to date and afterwards seeing BVic for a nice river cruise on one of the boats. So to resume my stay so far it was great and also met some very friendly Chicagoans and surprisingly a lot of fellow germans too. So see you in town
Andy, I have been meaning to post a meeting time and location for Saturday, but the forum has been acting up. So here it is folks, I propose the Billy Goat Tavern, a typical meeting place for us forumers, its local and its cheap. Meet there at around 7PM Saturday evening, 444 North Michigan Avenue on the Lower Level (there is a stairway leading to the lower level in the sidewalk). The entrance for the Billy Goat is then a right turn west on the Lower Level of Hubbard Street. This is just north of Trump Tower and the Wrigley Building.

^Nice. It will a great to meet you Harry.

There is a truck with cyclone fencing on the site right now. My guess is that the hole will be "secured" while other work occurs around it.

wrote the adress down and will be there to meet you guys. Really looking forward to it.

Yesterday I really had a great time with BVics Boat tour. Was amazing to see all the construction going on and to see all the awesome skyscrapers i cover in my vids in person. Then i went over to the Spire site. It surely is a small site for such a tall tower. Just a shame that at least when i was there around 2pm not much was going on but its nice to hear BVics news. After that i went to Navy Pier and took a Ferris Wheel ride, lol, i know more for kids but I enjoyed the view. Had a nice afternoon there with this awesome weather See you all saturday night

Not looking to good with the European bank problems and Iceland meltdown.
Hope the capital injections get enough cash flow to allow this project to get back on track. As long as its done by the Chicago 2016 Olympics I will be happy!

Andy, hope you have a great time in Chicago. The September weather is
almost always the best for the Great Lakes. This year its October.
Global warming!!! Love your videos.

A lot of people also overlook that in the trades, "union" often means "trained and/or apprenticed" to a higher standard than non-union. You can't just start paying dues and be in a trades union, and like most things, having people who actually know what they're doing is worth a premium.

Someone posted an interview with the architect of the Sears Tower some time ago on here, it was about 20 pages long, and at one point the interviewer asked him whether he preferred working on buildings in non-union towns like Miami, or union towns like Chicago. He responded that, hands down, as an architect it was much, much easier to work with union guys because they knew how to do things in a standard, reliable way. He acknowledged that the upfront costs were sometimes higher, but seemed to think it paid off in the long run with a better product.

Maybe they can just finish the basement for the time being...then they can rent it out as a parking garage.
