Before 385 feet
Now 448 feet...
Anyway, this building is very simple and very thin.

I look forward to the 50 West Street is constructed.

Thanks for these photos. He is growing very fast.

As the WTC continues to be built out, along with the area south of it including 50 West, this will increasingly become mere fill which makes it decent fill I suppose, but still I would've preferred a completely generic glass box.
The area between Battery Place and the WTC (Battery City) is lacking architecturally. A lot of those buildings are relatively recent. I don't know why more taste wasn't used, but it is what it is.

High Holiday

May 4, 2012
The Editors

Quote:
We heard rumblings, but now it’s official—a 400-room, 50-story high Holiday Inn will be joining the ranks of downtown hotels at 99 Washington Street near the World Trade Center. It will be the world’s tallest Holiday Inn and the go-to architect for New York hotels, Gene Kaufman of Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman & Associates Architects, will be doing the honors. Kaufman’s other high-profile hotel projects, the Chelsea Hotel renovation and the new Hyatt near Union Square, seem to be moving full steam ahead, despite legal wrangling at the Chelsea. The Holiday Inn will likely open to guests by the end of this year.

Locals rail against financially tardy Holiday Inn developer

BY ZACH WILLIAMS
May 16, 2012

Quote:
The future of the world’s tallest Holiday Inn sprouting in Lower Manhattan remains up in the air, but the past is hard to escape for developer McSam Downtown LLC. The Downtown Express has found that McSam currently owes the city at least $180,000 in outstanding property taxes and fines on the project site located at 99 Washington St., the future site of the hotel. While no accidents have been recorded at the site, some local residents are demanding renewed scrutiny of the developer, who is seeking to increase the planned height of the building from 43 stories to over 50 stories if the city grants the developer new permits.

While the D.O.F. has not taken any punitive action against McSam, the company recently resumed payments on its own volition, according to Pat Jones, an attorney for McSam. It has taken about seven years for the Holiday Inn project to reach its current stage, but the project will likely not meet its spring 2013 deadline for completion, the attorney noted.

As the developer seeks to finalize designs, tackle tax problems with the city and resolve the outstanding fines, McSam will also have to deal with local residents, who charge the company with neglecting the impact of the construction on the neighborhood. The residents also claim that their safety at the northeast corner of Washington and Rector Streets, which is blocked by the construction, is in jeopardy, since people have to step onto the street to pass by.

New figures to work with

What do you mean? The building is u/c, and won't be completed until 2013.

Are you asking why there aren't updates? This is a totally anonymous building, no different from many dozens of hotels currently u/c in NYC.

It's also annoyingly out of the way from the subway on my way home. If 50 West were U/C, this would be getting a ton more pics taken of it.

99 Washington Street August 2012 Construction Photos

Looks to be about halfway up at this point, or just short of that mark.

Anything new? Pics?
In the end, this building will have 43 floors or 50? - Post #64:

The building permits say 50 floors. The building appears to be as of right, and required no city approval (besides the normal permitting required of all buildings, in order to meet the building code).

Sound bites from NIMBY locals are not to be trusted.
